Hoping this'll be more like C&C

Command and conquer, in case anyone didn’t know.

By that I mean it’d be cool if this game had free base building, (placing buildings wherever in your territory if other buildings are close by)
I hope the game raises population cap, and more units.

It’d be cool to see the Falcon, and the Hornet, as well as pelicans that can transport anytime rather than using the d-pad menu like in the first Halo wars, an upgrade like something that arms the pelican with a gun as well. Drones would also be a really cool addition to halo wars.

My biggest request. Free for all, and larger team sizes as well as larger maps.

Am I the only one hoping Halo Wars 2 will be like Halo Wars?

I have played the Command And Conquer games for a long time and I think it would be ace if Halo Wars 2 was more like them.

Seems odd how so many of these HW “fans” want such a very different 2nd installment. Almost as if they didn’t really like the first HW or understand why it was a successful RTS.

There’s a reason Command and Conquer died out.

I can only hope HW2 is nothing like it.

I am hoping the exact same thing.

I’m hoping for Halo Wars 2 to be similar to the original but I do hope that we have free base placement. I would prefer that we are not restricted to specific base building locations. I’m fine with the buildings on the base, just bases being tied to specific spots on the map annoyed me. Other than that I thought HW was a fantastic game.

The game just needed more. More of everything.

Heck, I didn’t even mind the fixed base placement… Because you are only gaming with a controller and not the venerable keyboard and mouse, you don’t have the speed and accuracy to be dealing with building placement and economic micromanagement.

The lack of maps though… Real killer. Especially for 3v3.
And having the DLC (Aka. Reinforcements and Tug-of-War) as paid was a stupid move, they didn’t have the population to be useful as they were hidden behind a paywall.

Then Microsoft shuttered one of my favorite developers of all time (Creators of Age of Empires aka Ensemble.) and support for the game dried up.

The game also needed “forge” so people could make their own maps/scenario’s… Ability to record gameplay and upload it to social media would have been good.

Halo Wars does have the potential to be an eSports title which would help Microsoft shift Xbox Consoles… If only they looked towards the example that Blizzard has set with StarCraft 2, that game has set the bar for the entire RTS genre. It’s Microsoft/343i’s job to better it.

One thing that you can’t criticize Halo Wars on… Was that campaign, it was meaty, it was informative, it was fun and the cinematic’s… Awesome. Probably the best RTS campaign/story I have played… And StarCraft is my favorite RTS of all time.

Honestly, I think base building is Arcaic. I rather have a system that the Wargame series or the Men of War/ Call to Arms system. Combat happens right away and let’s you focus on the action.

Depends on how it’s done since the C & C controls on the 360 were pretty bad, overly complicated while Halo Wars was easier to use for the console. If Halo Wars 2 was made more like C & C on the consoles then it probably would be a huge disappointment to me since C & C is usuaully only been better on PC’s, well it would lead to PC gamers have a huge tactical advantage over console gamers.

You say base building is archaic, and yet it’s a staple of the the most popular RTS to-date, Starcraft II.

Yet for consoles, they don’t work.

Ronnie Says it Best. I have almost every RTS for the 360. and honestly the C&C and Supreme Commander series did not play well on their console versions compared their Console versions. Halo Wars was Literally the Best RTS on the Xbox, but Honestly, it doesn’t have real Base building, Just a base.

Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40K: Dawn of wars series also dumped full base building for a Halo Wars style bases and they are Highly successful for the Halo Wars style bases lead to faster combat. The Next evolution which would match consoles best is the Wargame and Men of War style unit spawning

Free base building for consoles doesn’t work. Yes, we agree on that. At least not in the current capacity displayed.

However, as you again agree, the static base building employed by Halo Wars does work and works quite well. It doesn’t matter that it’s not the pure form of base-building, but what is important is that it allows for dynamic play because it allows for players to choose which buildings to build in which order to maximize their attack potential in a variety of scenarios.

Yes, like Starcraft, there are set build-patterns for specific strategies that rely heavily on perfect (or near) timing, but that doesn’t negate that there are multiple strategies to employ. There is no blue print for success. Rushes can easily be countered. Leader choice doesn’t dictate one style of play, but rather filters it to few possible strong options.

Halo Wars with its flaws is a very well thought out RTS. It doesn’t need sweeping changes, but desperately needs refinement.

In response to OP:

Command and Conquer has an uncertain future, due largely to it’s lackluster gameplay. The series isn’t definitely Kill, but it is no longer a genre leading franchise. It’s console counterparts were insignificant.

If you feel I am wrong in my assessments, please explain why.

If you simply want free base building, that’s not a trait that can be attributed exclusively to C&C. It’s pretty near-standard for the Genre.

Well not exact, that would just kill the game.

No, Halo wars 2 should be like Halo Wars, but improved. Things like, Base building anywhere, more factions, Population increase, ect.
