My hope is pretty small at this point from what we’ve seen so far, but I’m really hoping that Infinite has some kind of public API we can get access to. My friends and I have been in the habit of checking out the Halo 5 API to dig into stats and mess around with the data. It’s also been super helpful for a ton of fan made content, like halocarnage, spartanfinder, halotracker, and more.
One would think that since Halo 5 had such a robust public API, Halo Infinite would have one as well, but it seems that isn’t the case. You can check out what Tashi said in this twitter thread: (nevermind, I can’t post links on this post - but if you look through Tashi’s replies you can find it. He talks about how Microsoft’s privacy policy has changed which makes a public API more difficult. And not to hold your breath for it.
However it seems that Halo Infinite does have an API, they’re just not making it available to the general public. Halodotapi seems to have access to their internal API, and they’ve been using it to create some content. You can see their site below: (can’t post links, but look up halodotapi and you’ll find the documentation)
I’m thrilled that someone has access and that they’re using the access to give people some cool content. But at the same time, I’m really hopeful they’ll allow anyone to access an API in the future. That would allow for folks to do some small group projects. It was really fun to have in Halo 5, so it would be a bit of a downgrade to lose it in Halo Infinite.
100% I’ve kept Halo Data Hive going since Halo 5 fazed out expecting a Halo Infinite API. If there is no API it’s kind of pointless to keep paying server costs.
Fingers crossed. Had a heap of fun playing around in Halo 5. And pretty much the first thing I did this morning was check to see if the API had any Infinite data (I’m at work so can’t be playing).
Would love to see more damage stats. Broken down into who did what (and when).
A player vector for each kill (show who shot who in the back).
And a flag for who was using equipment at the time.
They did have a ‘stats’ tab up yesterday, but it never loaded for me - I suspect they took it down for tuning.
In the meantime, you have some basic stats from community APIs like HaloDotApi. I’m not sure at this point whether the stats compensate for bots added to balance teams.
+1. With Infinite being on PC and Xbox, public API access like we had for H5 would be great for community members to create additional tools and resources. Discord bots, better stat tracking, HCS fantasy… I haven’t checked the old API portal yet but maybe. I saw HaloTracker seems to be working, so theres something somewhere.
Considering there is a forum still dedicated to the Halo API I think the chances are that it’ll materialise at some point but as the game hasn’t officially come out yet, I don’t think we’ll see movement on it for a little while at least. Besides the new Waypoint site hasn’t been around the long either, really.
Will be hopping on this train that I hope there is an API to access. Would love to have some stat-data availability. Would love to be able to create some crazy chat bots for users specifically focused on fun data facts, and progress reports for streamers.
Honestly, I’d be willing to pay for it. With the recent monetization practices 343 has embraced, maybe offering a small monthly sum for an API will entice them to build and support it.
Who knows though, maybe we will be surprised on the 8th
