Hopes for DLC - The thread

We all know, that Halo 4, as every Halo since 2 - will have downloadable content in terms of map packs after release. This thread is made for talking about it. How 343 Industries could make it, so we, players wouldn’t feel robbed, disappointed etc.

Here is my idea, how to manage DLC of Halo 4:

There will be 3 map packs with 3 maps that costs, probably the standard 800ms points and Limited edition has authenticity for these map packs without extra cost. Halo 4 is confirmed to have 10 maps at launch, and that isn’t really a big collection of maps at launch. What if, every copy bought new, would have code for free map pack in addition of those confirmed three. This first map pack would be free for all Halo 4 players, who bought their copy new. For people who bought used copies, would have to pay, well… let’s say 400ms points to get these maps. This Free map pack would contain remakes of the best halo maps ever, that would fit for Halo 4 gameplay. Then Halo 4 copy would give access for 13 maps, which in my opinion is pretty good enough

The free map pack would be launched in December, after 1½ months of Lauch and then other map packs would launch every 1-2 months till summer.

Another idea I have, would be season pass. Season pass is good idea to get people buy dlc, so people with dlc would get to play these maps, instead of how it was managed in Reach. 3 map packs for 1600ms points would give 33% save, and season pass would also give some little cosmetic extras, like skins etc.

What do you think community?

Lets hear what 343 has to say.

3 maps for 800 -Yoink!-?

No thanks.

Well, indeed it is expensive, but it has always been that price. All Halo 3 and Reach map packs except Anniversay map pack (which included 7 maps) cost 800 ms points when they launched. I guess that 400-600ms points would be more fair, but that’s microsoft who is charging, they are quite expensive.

I guess I forgot how many maps were in the Halo 3 DLCs, it’s been quite a while since i bought them. I never bought Reach DLC so I wouldn’t know about that either.

I’ve gotten used to games like GoW which have map packs with 5 maps for the same price.

I really hope we don’t have to pay 800 -Yoink!- for 3 maps unless their the best maps ever created.

Hmm…I don’t know…

10 maps. Well Halo 3 shipped with 11.

5 maps for 800ms points would be much better, but seems like they will use same strategy as before

well season pass would make it reasonable and ou would get all the map packs. 1600ms points for 9 maps? would it be fine? Then it would be about 530ms points per 3 maps.

EDIT:

Well I think 11 is also quite a low amount even though it is between standards. 12-15 maps would be more like it.

Yeah. 12-5 maps would be excellent.

I just wish Halo DLC matchmaking would be like Call of Duty’s and actually have the DLC maps in the regular playlists and match you with players with the same maps.

DLC maps are Free with LE edition

I would pay for them anyway
But this way is just easier

Remember its shipping with 10 none FORGE WORLD MAPS

SO 10 + a few more maybe that were made in forge

Hopefully not ALL GRAY

Most of the Halo games have had 11-13 maps at launch, so we’re not missing out on many maps. As long as the maps are good, I don’t mind (and as long as Forge is good too).

My DLC Wish list?..

Map Pack Uno:

  • NEW Map (Small)
  • NEW Map (Medium)
  • NEW Map (Large)

Map Pack Dos:

  • SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR Map (Like what Guardian in halo 3 was for Halo 2’s Lockout, Etc.)

  • FORGE WORLD 3 Map (A different themed one than Reach’s Forge World or the Default Halo 4 Forge World)

  • NEW Map (Large)

Map Pack Tres:

  • NEW Map (Small)

  • NEW Map (Medium)

  • NEW Map (Any-size, with a location From an area in Campaign, similar to Reach’s Default maps)

Classic Map Pack:

  • One Remake map From Halo PC (Death Island or IceFields?)

  • 6 Remake map’s from Halo 2 (Turf, Terminal, Lockout, Burial mounds, Zanzibar, WaterWorks)

Grand Finale Map Pack:

-One new Super awesome Forge world map…

  1. make most of the disc maps slayer/competitive based maps. I think its just fine if they add more big team battle maps but to me the most important gametype in halo has always been the 4v4 slayer so I think making the majority of the shipped maps based around that would be great!
  2. make MP maps for specific types of players, its good to have core maps that everyone can enjoy but I think thats what the shipped ones are for and not the dlc. make maps that are meant for things like 2v2, 8v8, KOTH, FFA, and maybe even some 16v16 or some 32v32 maps in there! what I’m saying is that they should try to add maps that are good for stuff the other ones aren’t.
  3. make a forge world! one of the best things about halo: reach was its forge world, in fact I think it pretty much made up for the lack thereof should I say “competitive” maps that halo: reach didn’t have. btw one of the biggest problems for me in halo: reach’s forge was that you had no control over the environment/climate/appearance of the maps. it would have been pretty awesome if say we could change the map from day to night, snowy to rainy, and so on.
  4. don’t bring back any old maps! I know some of you are asking why I would say such a thing but if you think about it the reasoning becomes clear, a lot of the maps could easily be brought back via forge. granted I will admit that its not a true remake however it will still play very much the same way that map would. Another thing to remember is that map remakes tend to not work, they may have worked for the previous games but for halo 4 I’m not so sure. I know this is kind of unrelated but I feel as though this is a good example. On gears of war 3 they decided to remake the map Blood Drive, at first I thought “hell yeah” because the map was easily one of my (and many others) favorite gears 2 map, but after playing it I found that it was easily unbearable. It went from being the most played/rememberable maps into a camp fest, and I personally would of rather them not make it at all then see it turn into one of my most hated gears 3 maps. yeah granted they could always change the map to make it work better for halo 4 but if they do then it kind of ruins the point of remaking the map if it looks, feels, and plays completely different from what it did previously.
  5. don’t make themed based map packs. what this does is essentially makes all of the maps in the pack look and feel very much the same which is kind of bad considered they may be awesome. yet again gears of war 2 did this with their snowblind map pack, every map had snow in it, now wasn’t that a great idea? but anyway to get more on subject if the theme is something like CQC or competitive or BTB based I think thats fine but don’t ever release 3-5 maps that all look the same.
  6. make the maps better than the pre-existing ones. what I mean by this is that you should always put into consideration the success/faults of the previous maps before the ones you are currently working on. now if the map is meant for something completely different (lets say its meant for big team battles) than I’m not saying that it should consider the previous 4v4 slayer maps as a way to improve. What I’m saying is that if said AA (promethean vision) is OP then you should make a map that doesn’t allow such a thing to be of as much use, or if a certain weapon is OP you should make it so the map won’t compliment that said weapon, and another thing that you should do is try to make the maps progressively better for forge mode than the other ones were, they did this with halo 3 so I think you’ll probably do this with halo 4 as well.
  7. make maps that don’t just add to the roster of maps. make maps that add say new and exciting gametypes. maybe you could add invasion slayer? to me maps that are there simply for varietys sake aren’t maps that should be made in the first place. making some maps that are good for say a certain gametype people have made up or something you were thinkinng about but didn’t get around to is a great way to make maps! instead of us the community having to forge our own gametype specific maps you (the developers) could do this for us. imagine if say infection or grifball or even rocket race had a map made for it, even though those gametypes aren’t as popular as the others I still think it would be pretty freakin sweet if you actually made maps specifically designed around them.

GIVE ME MOAR ARMOUR SETS!!!

> GIVE ME MOAR ARMOUR SETS!!!

lol quite honestly I thought reach had too much armor customization, I mean I get the whole make your spartan look like a total -Yoink!- and or badass but to me I just felt a little bit overwhelmed. No need to worry though because most likely they’ll release the pre-order skins after release AT LEAST.

No, I don’t think they should release pre ordered skins and emblems after release, because you have yourself to blame for not pre ordering. If you wan them, then you would pre order as simple as that. Unique skins should not be tossed out there for people who said, “I’m not pre ordering.” You guys don’t deserve them.

so you’re saying I don’t deserve the skins simply because I didn’t pre-order the game? yeah I guess my dedication and or effort put into the game is simply irrelevant. the only reason why they put those skins in the pre-order is so people will well pre-order it, they don’t do it simply because they wanted to make those people feel more special than everyone else.

Im fine with how things are going now. 10 maps, if all of them or most of them are good, is plenty. Halo 3, as stated above, only had 11 maps and that was more than enough until the DLC came out. My only hope for DLC is certain playlists REQUIRE you to have the DLC like Halo 3. I want to actually play on the maps I bought unlike Reach.

Yes, that’s how I feel. How hard is it to get up, and pre order. Anyways, I have to disagree on the last part to an extent. While it is to get people to pre order, I also think it’s for us to have our own uniqueness. For example, preordering Mw3 at the right time gave you a Founder’s Camo. It looked nice, but it was never released to the public. I accepted that I can’t get that camo, because I didn’t pre order. So I think Halo 4 might and should do the same. If it’s released a little after, then that diminishes the value of it, which I don’t like.
