Nobody lives forever, not even in the Haloverse. And that includes the Master Chief. Like 343 said: “We don’t want to be making Halo 17 when Chief’s like 80”. Eventually the torch must be passed on. Even so, I hope Chief gets a fitting end, and isn’t just forgotten and cast aside like a half-eaten pork chop just so some new, young gun can run in to take his place.
Chief is such a cultural icon in the gaming world that anything sub-par about his ending would be met with huge backlash. That being said, who says he will be replaced? They could easily make Halo 5 and 6 with him as the main protagonist and then end it there.
If they continue on to make more Halo games, then of course they’ll need to consider a new hero, but hopefully Microsoft aren’t stupid enough to milk this franchise into embarrassment.
I trust 343, however. Their handling of Halo’s storytelling thus far has been excellent. Halo 4’s campaign was by far my favourite in terms of the story, emotion and events (perhaps not gameplay). I’m sure 343 will handle Chief with great care and will not disappoint

I agree with Halo 4 having the best story, it was very emotionally charged. Which one was the machine? I didn’t like some of the game play aspects and sound effects. The AI was awful, plain and simple. My issue with the sound was it sounded very crunchy and sharp.
When the Master Chief goes, he needs to go with a bang and a loud one at that.
343 seems to care a lot about “Master Chief’s Journey”, I mean, we’re getting an entire collection dedicated to him. I don’t think they would get lazy if they had to kill off Chief. Chief is an iconic figure, however he’s not invincible. I don’t mind Master Chief being killed off in the future, as long as he is replaced by someone worthy of taking his place (I’m liking the look of Jameson Locke)
what made masterchief great is that he is willing to risk everything to humanity, its a personal and yet epic (like more important than just him) story. i felt halo 4 lost that epic feel in that it was just about Master Chief, even though humanity was part of it it wasnt at stake.
i hope that they keep the core of masterchielf. he fights because its not about himself, he embodies the will of humanity to survive

Did you miss the massive beam being fired at earth to turn us into willless robots?
Mario seems to be doing rather well…
MS would not allow the Chief to die.
I just hope the finish Chiefs story. I wouldn’t mind a new face to play as, as long as he/she (It could happen) are interesting. I don’t believe 343 will kill Chief off but at least retire him, and maybe give him a some what happy ending. That’s what I wish for at least.
In one Halo game Chief will fall into a fountain of youth.
Tadah! He’s 30 now!
I believe Chief should either die by the hand of a Forerunner, in a truly great cutscene. E.g. After he has risked everything he is simply too olds and goes in a way similar to that in the Halo 4 terminal 5 with The Lord of Admirals, quite apropos.
Or Chief, (knowing he has sacrificed everything he is to save humanity) should kill himself. Either with a large bang, or a deactivating shields in front of flood menace then shooting himself in the head in order to prevent secrets of humanity escaping.
Or final option is executed by Locke. Chief has gone rogue and has become a threat to humanity (there is literally no way to pull this off, but it must be done in a way which makes Chief still seem like the good guy and Locke looking like the other guy torn between these two options, a necessary sacrifice. Not in a way of cliche leave me behind, a proper fight where Chief is executed outright.) I would love it, playing as Chief in the ultimatum, you understand his struggle but also Lockes struggle as well. No running away, no fluke tactics. Chief with his inferior damaged armour and Locke with his Forerunner Human hybrid pinnacle of technology, Chief scores some huge hits on Locke but his armour and incredible skill prevails, Chiefs on the other hand (who you are playing as) gets warnings, shields glitching, no Cortana.
Chief pulls out Magnum and has it smashed out of his hand by Locke, who then picks up Chief who activate his anti grav prototype weapon thing to prevent telekinesis temporarily disabling Lockes suit. Chief then grabs knife and comes at Locke who has superior strength and reflexes, breaks chiefs arm after shot scramble and disarms him before plunging an energy sword through his heart. At this point you switch back into the POV of Locke which Chief dying in your arms, then Arby comes in with a legendary quote to wrap it all up.
Would love that sort of ending.
I myself do not want to see Chief die.
However, what I do want is to see him go down like the Ur-Didact and get mind–Yoinked!- by the Flood before being dumped back into his society.
What better way to crush the morale of the humans than to have their ultimate hero enter a streak of primal insanity right before their eyes?
Well don’t forget due to cryo Chief really is not 40… hes quite a bit younger.
IF he dies, handle it well… all I’m going to say. Fred/Kelly/ or Linda would be a good replacement… Not to mention a strong female lead (besides Palmer) would be interesting.

Well what do you expect, the war was over and the new threat didn’t truly rise until the attack on New Pheonix.
Maybe they’ll do just as in Crysis, the memories of previous owners of the suit stays in because of the alien virus…
We could have the same here with the chief’s armor and some forerunner technology, then we could have someone taking chief’s armor…etc (locke maybe?)
