In Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, a lot of the levels were quite a bit brighter than their original interpretations. The two best examples that I have are the levels “Truth and Reconciliation” and “Two Betrayals.” 343i’s remasterings have a large difference in color and brightness. When I played both of them with low brightness, neither seemed like they took place at night. I’m having trouble finding images to illustrate this, but rest assured, if you hop in-game, I’m sure you’ll see the same thing.
I ask that dark levels remain dark to maintain the original feeling of the level.
Yup, CEA was a bit too bright in a number of spots. Enough to make you wonder why you had a flashlight.
They probably did it to highlight (no pun intended) the greater level of detail and better lighting system, but they really went overboard with it.
It’s called dynamic lighting; something that wasn’t possible on original Xbox games (I don’t think). It’s newer technology that functions like actual light. The reason it was in such stark contrast to Combat Evolved is, well, because it’s literally stark contrast. They could have toned it down a little, as it does take away from the drab atmosphere of some environments, but it just looks so pretty.
