i have weird pet-peeves, but I hope they call the new game Halo 6, or at the very least, Halo 6 Infinite.
Halo Infinite just isn’t right.
Not sure, I think the problem is when it get’s to be a bit ridiculous like if they came out with Halo 20. Maybe they could sort of keep the numbers but after a while it might end up being too much. Other ways around this if they keep it as just Halo Infinite name then make a sequel called Halo Infinite 2.
It’s not going to have a number in the title - Halo Infinite is the official name for the game. 343 have moved away from numbered titles

Thanks for the sad info. It’s be nice if they’d just number this one for the end of the reclaimer saga. xD

It’s not the end of the Reclaimer Saga, afaik. It’s not a trilogy anymore. Read the stickied FAQ.
343 is no longer giving main titles for main installments. I’m happy about this, as at some point the number in the title just feels weird. Something like Halo 8 just feels weird and off.
I feel like numbering the games after 5 would just make them seem watered down. I mean imagine 10-20 years from now, “Halo 14 The Dawn” or something like that. It doesn’t sound right in the slightest. Plus when people hear that they’re just gonna roll their eyes and think “14!?” how many Halo’s are they gonna make. So personally I love just calling it Halo Infinite, it makes sound new for series. Not new as in a new game but a new direction the game is going in.
I honestly feel like even 5 should have just been called ‘Halo: Guardians’, it’s not the first time they made a Halo game without a number, Halo: Combat Evolved didn’t have a number because it was the first in the series and Halo: Reach didn’t have a number because it technically came before CE. So, while I guess it DOES make sense Halo 5 had a number as it came right after 4 and continued the story…I still think it should have just been Halo: Guardians.
But as a preference, I’m glad they’re calling this one Halo: Infinite and not Halo 6: Infinite. It just looks too weird having the 6 in it…besides, I think this is taking place within the Reclaimer Saga, but not directly correlating to the Cortana story. Think of it as a filler game if you will.

Halo XIV would be ok imo, it’s worked for the Final Fantasy series, they’ve even had X.5 or something similar. However, I’m also ok with the named sequels, Halo Infinite, Doom Eternal etc.

Yeah using roman numerals would be alright, but I don’t think they will since that’s never been Halo’s style in anyway.

I know, but Halo VI looks really good imo, so does Halo VII. However I think Halo VIII and Halo CXVII (117) looks odd lol. So they probably did the right thing. Infinite is fine imo.

Bungie wanted CE to simple be called Halo, but Microsoft at the time pushed for it having a tagline because it was a thing at the the time and they thought it would sell more copies. Reach wasn’t named so just because it came before CE, there are quite a few games that have taken on the next number in the series but are actually a prequel

I suppose that’s a fair point on Reach, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game that started the series/saga/arc of a story with the number 1 next to it xD Likely, today it would have simply been called ‘Halo’ and that’s it. But it’s interesting that the only ones that have words or tag lines after them are ODST, Reach, and Guardians. Of course those tag lines basically tell us what each game is centered around. Games haven’t done this since the early 00’s and stopped really doing it around 2003 I believe.
A good example would be the Jak and Daxter series. The first game was called Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, but the next game (which came out the Fall of 2003) was simply titled Jak II (in at least America, the European copies were titled ‘Jak II: Renegade’). In fact, the only Jak and Daxter games to have tag lines after the first game was Combat Racing (which was a spinoff that wasn’t tied to the main story) and The Lost Frontier (which wasn’t even made by the same company and was actually pretty bad imo).
Most games that start a story are usually just titled but never have a number
Don’t get your hopes up. They said even before H5 they wanted to get away from numbering the main games.
I think its good to get rid of the numbers, the titles sound a lot cooler. Take a look at Marvel, they rearely have numbers in the movie titles anymore, the last one being Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2.
Avengers: Infinity War sounds a lot cooler to me than Avengers 3: Infinity War
Same way that to me Halo: Infinite sounds better than Halo 6: Infinite
Honestly, 343i should’ve stopped using numbers in Halo 4 because Halo 1-3 were all Bungie and it would be a lot better if Halo 4 was Halo: [insert] and Halo 5 was just Halo: Guardians.
Again this is all my opinion.
I’m definitely in the camp of being happy with the move away from numbers. I like either just numbers or just subtitles (“Halo 3” or “Halo: Infinite” for example). Mixing them together just sounds kind of unappealing. Wish they had called “Halo 5: Guardians” just “Halo: Guardians”.
Bonnie Ross said it’ll be a “spiritual reboot”, a numbered title wouldn’t make sense. Halo Infinite is perfectly fine.
To be real Halo Infinite sounds a lot cleaner than Halo 6 Infinite.
I disagree. In my opinion, Halo Infinite is a great title and I wouldn’t even mind if they called it halo 6: Infinite.
I’m assuming they did it for the same reason the new story of infinite is supposed to be easier to understand. They want new players and old players alike to flock to the game and ‘halo 6’ title would make new players feel like they are behind and alienate them. That’s my guess I haven’t seen this response yet. I figured I’d throw in my two cents.
