Hope or Skepticism for Forge?

Putting how long it might be until we actually get forge aside, do you guys have high hopes for it? If not, what are your concerns about it?

I’m hopeful about what it will be capable of doing- all indications are that it will be staggering even compared to H5’s impressive Forge mode.

That said, I’m personally very concerned about accessibility in terms of it being user-friendly for casual and new players to use. H5’s Forge, for all its enhanced capability, was a dramatic leap backwards regarding its UX and accessability IMO.

Also I’m very skeptical that we’ll see Forge this year. 343i has squarely earned a reputation for delivering the goods considerably later than they’re initially promised.

Forge will honestly make or break this game for me. The gameplay is fun, and the style is good, but the pace of new content just isn’t good enough for a live service so far. Forge if done correctly can help remedy a huge chunk of this issue, and if the improvements from H2A to H5 are any indication, hopefully the improvements and refinements from H5 to Infinite will allow for a swath of good community content to extend the game. I bet there’ll even be some forge remakes too, especially if a lot of the talented H5 forgers return.

BUT, I’m terrified that it will either not work correctly and thus require a long time to fix it, or they will find a way to monetize some aspect of Forge, the latter of which would probably result in me giving up all hope for Halo (which is already getting pretty miniscule to me). Additionally, if Forge takes too long to get here then I worry there might not be enough people to really help it explode.

I hope Forge’s release will cause some sort of miracle recovery for Infinite, but I’m not entirely convinced that it will magically save the day. It will definitely give players a little something to look forward too, but it’s not like these maps/game modes are going to just start rolling out like a production line. 343 is going to put a limit on it and regulate it for the ā€œ10 year plan.ā€ If you can’t find or don’t play private custom games regularly then a large majority of Forge-created content will go unnoticed by those players until 343 incorporates them into the official Matchmaking process.

Without a server browser it would be a waste or dead in the water, especially considering the lack of post and pregame lobby to make friends in. Unless I see AI in this forge, I feel it is just going to disappoint me like the rest of the game.

343 has always handled forge well. They just need to work on the controls for it.

Both at this point
The Dev showcases of ā€œforgeā€ tools they used to build the campaign are exciting to see but the the actual flexibility for the player doesn’t seem to be entirely realized yet, judging by the leaked forge flight footage out there.

Terrain tools specifically are what I’m referring to since there has never been a real way to generate or alter terrain on a map, unless using old tools from back in the day. (Sapien, Ect.)

With H5’s forge, we’re given sets of appropriately textured terrain primitives to help generate abstract shapes and geometry, group it, then place it. This wasn’t a bad approach, just time consuming while on a gamepad, coupled with the scavenger hunt for the right primitives in that over crowded items list. If they let us trace/draw/paintbrush terrain, I’d be so happy…so many warthog races…:oncoming_automobile:

Rest in peace far cry map creation kits, you had the best terrain editing. Rest in peace doom 2016 map creation kit, you had the best (most difficult) scripting.

I hope it will have two modes: Beginner and advanced. Beginner for people like me who just want to spawn in some warthogs and guns, and advanced for the giant maps that are dev quality

I’m not a Forge player (unless you count putting every vehicle in a pile and blowing it up lol) but I do hope everything is free and there is no premium items. or if anything they do something like Space Engineers and give new free stuff as well as premium stuff, which I still hope doesnt happen.

also I hope scriptable AI is in the game. like imagine we could spawn an elite in and he’s non-hostile and kind of like an npc. or prefab an elite to have some funky looking armor (like imagine you could shrink down some warthogs and make shoulder pads for him and a helm…and call him the Wort-hog XD)

given 343’s lack luster launch of everything… i doubt it’l be good, i have very low hopes for it. it’l be buggy, maybe laggy, the maps will just be the base trash maps with no forge world… and dare i say possibly monetized given that it is a ā€˜free to play model’ so obviously that means milk everything for money. or even very little items to use in forge… so thusly, i believe forge will be dissapointing like everything else in this game.

So much hope.

Forge in Halo 5 was superb. And if we get even a small generational leap into Infinite - yay!, we’re in for a treat.

Hopefully it’s powerful enough that it will be a lot harder to tell a Forge map from a developer made one.

And I’m particularly interested in the scripting. Halo 5 was excellent again - but we just need a few minor things to open it up. The ability to act on the killer (not just the victim) and being able to change teams / weapons / equipment on the fly. So many game types could be opened up for exploration.

Hopeful. It’s one of the areas that they’ve got to nail down.

Not getting hopes up 343 has shown their ability to false advertise time and time again

Forge isn’t too if of a deal for me, but I have made a couple maps in it before, and it is fun. Also a pretty huge part of Halo. I’m hopeful, really all I’d like is just faster and less complicated ways to make maps but, they’ve got that down pretty good already. I just want everyone to be happy. lol
