From looking so far and the the pictures they shown us, it looks like its all just valleys and mountains and forest. I hope that isn’t the case and there are some places where the land is just broken off, or everything is burned and on fire. Or if the flood were back, there is a flood infected area. Or even what was shown in the teaser, water levels. That being said, hopefully everything isn’t all just on the surface, and there are some forerunner machines that are in the sky or dug in the ground. Giving extra variety while also in extra variation.
Because beautiful land can only go so far and become repetitive walking around them.
They have already shown many different environments across various promotional material. There is definitely going to be an arid biome, like some kind of desert level, which was shown in the original engine showcase. I’m almost certain there’s going to be a snowy region, in fact I believe they have shown it already somewhere but I can’t remember where exactly. Subterranean levels have also been confirmed. On top of all that, we may get to go inside banished ships maybe like with the Truth and Reconciliation in CE, although we haven’t seen that yet. Let’s also not forget the day/night cycle which will add a lot of variety to the environments as well as things like mist and different kinds of terrains, like more vertical terrains, mountains, rocky areas, swamps, caves, grassy plains, dense forests, etc.
There’s really no need to worry as far as environment variety goes with Infinite.
I’m sure there will be different environments. That would be absolutely insane if there wasn’t. I’m sure they’re holding back on revealing too much before marketing really kicks off for the game as well as just keeping a lot secret for us to discover when we play it. Not to mention, the screenshots we’re getting now are definitely just for comparison to the gameplay reveal. Wouldn’t make sense to compare the environment from the demo to a snowy or desert area.

I don’t know, they haven’t really shown anything besides the same valley forest the past two years. Hopefully they know that players would want to see different sceneries to be interested…

My thoughts exactly… I’m hopeful 343 is gonna deliver with more environments to explore than just the Pacific Northwest biome (which looks beautiful), but a couple screenshots of different terrain would’ve eased my doubt.

There is snow in the first screenshot they showed in the update. Look again
I agree. While the screenshots look beautiful, it’s always nice to have variety in the environments. I think there will be at least some switches because they said you start in the forests. That lead me to believe you will leave the forests.
We see snowy mountains in the background in the pictures of the day/night cycle in the recent Inside Infinite. They said they want to keep some surprises for when we actually play the game, but there has been different biomes confirmed. There’s still a load ton of the world we haven’t seen so I wouldn’t be surprised if they have different biomes mixed in somewhere.

I do hope they took a lot of inspiration from the PNW outside of what we’ve seen. If you go up Columbia River, from Troutdale to Wallula, you get some interesting areas that change from marshes to temperate rainforests to rocky plains to dry grassland, and finally desert.
Only time will tell, but hopefully they have some dry biomes and cold biomes in there.
I have my money on there being 3 (if not 4) ‘maps’ throughout the campaign.
The first will obviously be the alpine one we have seen in the reveal and subsistent updates. Another will likely be a glacial mountain type biome similar to Assault on the Control Room, with snowy and icy areas. And another could be your tropical desert style biome, with sprawling Sandtrap-like dunes, but maybe also feature beachfront areas similar to the Silent Cartographer.
As for a fourth, that could be anything, as the above 3 sort of fiction as your RGB of the colour spectrum, with most other niche areas being derived from the base biome.

Those definitely sound like some awesome baseline environments to explore. I really hope 343 isn’t gonna make anything besides the Pacific Northwest biome a purchased DLC. Like you said, we should get 3, or maybe even 4 different terrains right out the box. Fingers crossed

For me, it’s more of a canonical storytelling issue.
For instance, in CE you visit the Control Room, Cartographer, the Library, and a Flood containment laboratory. Not to mention the POA and TAR’s crash sites.
If Infinite has all of its main locations crammed into one local area, it would be a game breaking issue in a logical sense. Like, the Halo is about 30,000km in circumference, yet all of the important sites were placed in a 100x100km area? If the map is even virtually that large.
And that would also become an issue if they put all of the various climate biomes in the one map. Being able to drive from hot sandy desert to an icy mountain ravine in 10 minutes would be weird. We’re not playing minecraft here.
