Honor Guard Councilor

So in Halo 2 there was a glitched Sangheili that appeared as some kind of “mini boss fight” almost at the end of the mission Gravemind, just when the Blow me Away theme is about the end. The Sangheili was originally meant to be a Zealot, according to Bungie, but due to some programming errors that combination between a Sangheili Councilor and a Sangheili Honor Guard was born.

The question is… do you think they’ll keep the glitch? It’s not that I care very much about such a small detail, but I think it was a badass looking enemy.

That thing was a glitch?

Huh. I didn’t know that.

Anyway, to answer your question, most likely. I don’t think 343I is going to waste their time on fixing small glitches like this one.

That thing,” was an Honor Guard Councillor!! (Reference to the Arbiter telling Tartarus “That is the Oracle!!”)

Haha just kidding; I think this was another unique and fun glitch, as most glitches in Halo 2 were fun. I think it’ll be back because 343i stated at E3 this year that Halo 2 “will ship exactly as it did ten years ago.” Under that logic, we’ll see this cool looking Elite again this fall. I’ll certainly be looking out for him.

REDACTED - Sheesh, with the amount of time ppl spend lurking to critique posts for canonical accuracy you think they’d be able to reply to the main point of the post…

BTW OP I think the correct level you’re referring to was, “Uprising.” “Gravemind,” was just a cutscene featuring The Arbiter, Chief, Gravemind, infected monitor of Delta Halo, and infected Prophet of Regret. That cutscene was not playable.

Gravemind is indeed a level.

The mission was called Gravemind.

The one you refer to as Uprising is totally diferent.

I always figured it was supposed to be a Light of Sangheilios (i.e. those dead white Elite Ultra bodies with Honor Guard decorations on). I assumed his helmet glitched, and instead of being an Honor Guard helmet, it became a Councilor helmet.

Uh huh, yeah thanks- I got that from the person that replied before you did… Did you by chance happen to read the rest of my post?

Poor dude finishing his career in the Guard when he decides to go into politics, only to get attacked by the Flood while changing his clothes!

Oh yeah!! I like this!! A little backdrop behind a unique character. That could (unintentionally) become a little side story in order to offer some insight into how Elites progressed through the ranking system in the old covenant. Neat idea!

My question is OP, will the Halo 2: Anniversary campaign be the Xbox version or the PC version? In the PC version they nerfed the poor guy hardcore, which totally took away the fun in fighting him. Plus, how will Saber approach his design since his armor changes every time?

> In the PC version they nerfed the poor guy hardcore, which totally took away the fun in fighting him.

I remember this now that you mention it… On the PC version I think I dropped him on Legendary with two overcharged plasma pistol shots and a quick shot to the head. It had been a while since I had played through on Xbox on Legendary, so I just thought I was in the zone that day. In fact, he was much harder to take down in the Xbox version of Halo 2. Excellent observation Xaybiance, I really hope we get the more difficult version to provide a better challenge this November.

I never knew it was a glitch, probably would’ve never knew if you hadn’t made this thread.

It’s amazing that I’m still learning fun facts about Halo 2 so many years after it’s release.

It will definitely be there in the old graphics. However in the new graphics I’d presume they will correct it’s model and make it a Zealot.

I wouldn’t even call it a mini boss fight, Zealots were fairly common in Halo 2 (though you didn’t really notice because Ultras, despite being lower ranked Elites, were much more difficult enemies). And the glitch didn’t change it’s behavior or it’s shield strength, just it’s appearance.

Also, with this talk about “nerfing” him. He was never “nerfed” He has the shield strength of a Zealot, meaning he’s weaker than the oh-so-common Ultras, and one Plasma Pistol overcharge is enough to drain it on Legendary.

Also @ another above post: The Lights of Sanghelios have never been shown in any Halo game. That the white Honour Guards are them, or even an existing rank and not just a cutscene related glitch, is pure speculation and has no basis in any confirmed fact.

Assumptions are the route of all evil. At this time there is no way to tell for sure whether Saber will make it a Zealot in the new graphics or keep it as it was in the original Xbox version.

Did you ever play Halo 2 PC? I don’t mean to sound fecicious, perhaps you do not fully understand how the elite was changed in this version. Granted I haven’t played it for years, but based off my memory from a couple years ago I thought he took two overcharged plasma pistol shots to go down. Granted my memory from a few years ago could be cloudy AND this particular Elite was different between the Xbox and PC versions further cluttering this issue.

In regards to secrets, glitches, hidden easter eggs and campaign awesomeness, Halo 2 IS the game.

Well it is getting anniversary treatment, so they may remove it.
