Honest question regarding multiplayer (RTS-Noob)

Hello there,

I’ll try to make it quick, I’m an absolute RTS-Noob, I mean, I’m bad in this kind of games, really bad. But somehow I managed to download and start playing Halo Wars 2, out of curiousity but more so because I’m a huge Halo-Fan. I played through the tutorials and started the campaign on heroic because I can’t allow myself to play anything lower. I’m on mission 4 now, so far without any problems… to my surprise. It does make fun but I’m not doing anything particularly good neither tactical or strategical. I just start building supply pods and generators then I spam all kind of units to a massive bulk and attack. Meanwhile I upgrade my units. Rinse and repeat.
Unfortunately with this ‘‘strategy’’ I will fail hard in multiplayer, especially the micromanagement on console and dividing units into classes-part (AT,AA,AI) is near impossible for me. Still its fun…

Should I give it a try and move towards the core meta or stick with the campaign and knock it off? Is the meta difficult to learn? How hard is the MP in general?

Thx

Add me and I’ll play some custom games to show you a few tips. Multiplayer is different because you have to choose a specific leader.

As for controlling your units , click all units and then hold RT and press the Y button to scroll threw them on the bottom. Practice your micro in the campaign you will need it

It isn’t as complicated as you seem to think it is. I do recommend playing through the campaign on Heroic first as you are doing, and then practice skirmishes against heroic AI until you can comfortably beat them as multiplayer style matches play very differently than campaign. You’re not going to be comfortable with your micro and macro without practice but you’ll get there eventually.

My only advice for you as a new player is: scout the enemy so you aren’t surprised by their comp, gather as much resources on the map as possible as quickly as possible, try and learn the general strengths of each leader and their leader powers (will take time to do this), remember to upgrade your units and supply pads/generators when you can, and most of all don’t sweat it too much. You’ll get the hang of it eventually and you don’t have to be amazing at this game to succeed in team battles.

Beyond that, just the fact that you are on waypoint asking questions is going to give you an edge over new players. I learned a lot quickly by coming on here. If you have a question the folks here will be kind enough to give you a detailed answer. You’ll also learn all you need and probably see more than you need about what is strong in what situations just by skimming through the posts on here.

to get practice in vs 3 legendary AI with 2 heroic allies and dont flank actually try to kill the AI hoard. I only did one ranked pvp but the time i spent doing round like that helped me take an early lead (cause ai rushes for points too) and hold it till i finished him off and he did have a higher record then me. Even though the AI cant properly defend itself it knows how to use an army and if you can beat that regularly you’ll be better prepare for human enemies in terms of reaction time because AI do not hesitate to throw all they have at you when you face the mob head on.

Just my own tips for improving. As far as pvp tactics, that trial and error finding your own style and learning how to adapt to ur enemies while using it.

You need to learn the commands. Most high level players never use grouping.
just ALL UNITS then cycle through the units OR hold and and select a certain amount. Or just select local units. The hole command is very important to use you can select a unit and hold RT AND double tab LB to send it to a certain location and then you can all units to control the rest of ur army. Very useful when wanting like a warthog or something to attack a minibases or a single marine to take a single
ode.

Hey man id like to think im pretty descent at this game, id say play threw the campaign and learn the units then try to adapt some form of strategy based off that and go from there.

play 1v1 against legendary AI, they will usually rush you which is good practice for the real world lol
