I want to see peoples feelings on REQ packs…
In my opinion i do not like REQ packs. I liked the armor unlocks when it really took skill to unlock variants. not just random chance to unlock a random rarity set of armor. Halo 3 had the real skill challenges when it came to unlocking armor because it was unlocked by achievements. Halo reach AND halo 4 had a great system where you had to rank up and buy the armor with credits won in game…but now it’s turned into most of these games where you unlock items by opening a pack and hoping to get the rare item. I do not like that i honestly hate it and now you can just buy prophets bane and again with tartarus’s gavel…WHY!? It’s turning into a pay to win where you can just go buy strong reqs for around 12$. I miss the skill that it took to unlock armor. Does everyone remember road to recon? now that was a true way to unlock armor, you really had to work to get recon and it was Awesome! you really were wearing this awesome piece of armor and it really showed how much you worked for it. Now recon is a common unlock…their is no skill shown with armor anymore…it’s all just luck. I want armor to show skill again. Can somebody enlighten me on why so many people like REQ packs? i don’t understand why people stand up for it anymore.
I don’t mind them. But armor should not be tied to them. That’s my biggest gripe with the system.
I’m fine with REQs. It’s a pain to get cooler armor sets, but I’m pretty satisfied with my current one. They don’t make the game pay to win. The only game mode they affect is Warzone which has been intentionally designed to be unbalanced and crazy.
I like the REQ system. It let’s me use weapons I wouldn’t use otherwise. I’ve been trying a lot more things with this system and weeding out what I don’t like to use. Honestly, I rarely reach levels above 7 and by the time I do the game is pretty much over which is unfortunate. I’m not a big fan of how the counter resets after you use a power weapon or vehicle. Like I stated before I rarely get above REQ 7 with ample enough time let alone an opportunity to use it a second time provided the REQ’s get back to a high level.
I hate it. Many issues with Halo 5 can be traced to the existence of the REQ system.
“Micro”-transactions (lets face it, most are anything BUT micro.) should NEVER be in full-price AAA games.
I can’t stand them. REQs are just frustrating and a lazy way to add some “collectivity” factor to gear in the game. And you can’t even control what level of gear you get from the silver and gold packs; everything is unlocked by utter chance. I only want some armor sets and weapon skins, but I have to wade through hundreds and hundreds of other REQs to get what I want. Even when I do get what I want, I didn’t earn it. I just got lucky with RNG.
REQs also force people to gravitate toward the small selection of Warzone playlists. If someone who plays mostly Arena wants to collect armor and assassinations, he or she needs to play Warzone at least semi-regularly just to increase the chances of getting desired items. (Yes, the player can try to get classic Mark VI or Helioskrill, but the only guaranteed way of getting them is by buying and playing the Master Chief Collection.) This is only logical, as Warzone was built from the ground up to support REQs.
If REQs are staying in Halo 6, and they probably will, I say all customization options must be left out of the system in favor of traditional, achievement-based or commendation-based unlocking. I couldn’t care less about power weapons and certifications being innately tied to chance.
The req system has a lot of up-sides and a lot of down-sides, but honestly… ‘armor as a reward for skill’ maybe a turn on for some people, but I always thought that winning was its own reward. That and the service record you build up over time. Having armor be a visible symbol of skill or slog is just porting into the game the materialistic elitism that is so painfully rampant and painfully corrosive in real life.

I agree with second part with packs that cost 10 buck
but I think dlc is worse, it splits the community, down the line people still playing don’t have the dlc so it isn’t even playable. I barely got to play any of the halo 4 dlc and I simply don’t buy a multiplayer game that does and if I do I wait till there is a complete edition on sale. That even effects games I wanted so badly like Star Wars Battlefield still haven’t bought it and I don’t see the point any more. If Titanfall 2 has paid for dlc I won’t be getting that either and I kind of love it more than halo now.
Lazy people paid me to unlock Recon for them, and I squandered it selfishly. Only difference now is that lazy people pay the developer, and the entire community benefits.
I think there should be a mix of Halo 3 and Reach. Armor that takes skill/achievements to unlock, and armor that must be unlocked by playing lots of multiplayer.
I have no problem with RNG in games, I’ve played so many that work that way. I prefer it to the Destiny system for sure. At least you can’t unlock the same thing like 8 times.
REQs should be just for Warzone. Any cosmetics should be unlocked another way.
Honestly? I really don’t mind them. People claim they’re pay to win but that’s utter bollocks they just don’t understand the system. I’ve never paid and I regularly win, so -Yoink- that theory. Apart from anything else the req levels in matches prevent this being the case. I actually enjoyed getting req packs as I never knew what i was getting and it kept me playing the game. For me this is no different to when I was young and would buy packs of Pokémon cards. I would never know what was in it but my god did I love the process. And the feeling of satisfaction when getting a special/shiny was undeniable. I like reqs
I liked the way armor was unlocked in Reach, but since 343 isn’t going to do things that way I’ve decided to live with things the way they are.
I don’t mind the req packs. Sure it needs improvements but it’s not game breaking. Reqs only effect the warzone. As long as it stays that way I am cool with it. Yeah I would like to see more cosmetics unlocked via gameplay as well. It seems the biggest complaint is it being a random draw. They really should have added wildcards that let you pick reqs from time to time or maybe have separate req packs separated by say cosmetics, weapons, and vehicles.

I’m not fond of micro-transactions. I feel they can exploit people who aren’t full aware of the system, are bad at match, or have kids that can find their credit cards. I also don’t like pay-to-win, pay-for-advantage features in games. Given that I think the system has been implemented in such a way that you are not punished for not spending cash and that the pay-to-win elements are easily negated by being a better player, having a team, being more experienced, a bit of luck, or communication skills. As for unlocking armor? I don’t really care. I think mixing the systems would probably be best. Have a few unlockable via commendations, a few via achievements, and the rest in the pool (as the req system will inevitably return regardless of anyone’s opinion.)
REQs are good. They provide a constant flow of money into Halo rather than ocassional highs of DLC. They keep players playing the game. They give players chances to use weapons that would be overpowered as some sort of timed on the map weapon. A good REQ can be used to try and change the way a game is going, even as a solo player.
If 343 had one set of armor for beating Halo 5 on Legendary, one set for some sort of Vidmasters, and a few armor sets with commendations, and they never released permutations on those sets, people wouldn’t complain. REQs aren’t the issue. It’s 343’s choices. I understand the theory behind allowing even the worst player to get that cool piece of armor. However, creating a permutation of something like Helioskrill was stupid. The fact that Achilles is impossible for a small Spartan company is ridiculous. If your friend group of Halo players is 8 people, you are forced to join or start another Halo company just to get Achilles.
TL:DR
REQs are good, 343 is dumb. Give us 10 sets of unlockable armor with real challenges + real rewards, and then keep the current system the same. Make the reward sets the only possible permutation of that armor.
This actually opened my eyes a lot. i shouldnt of said Pay to Win, its more of a paid advantage which still is a no for me. but i liked what a lot of you said where weapons and vehicles and power-ups could be in reqs and leave the armor out of it. that would be really nice, making req packs geared towards warzone only since its supposed to be this huge WARZONE between all different people Which is understand why it can be unbalanced just because its a warzone between all different kind of people, your not gonna get put into a huge battle where everyone has the same exact weapons then you, it would get boring. the fun of warzone is when you are fighting fire with fire with all your power weapons, it makes it fun. but armor…i like customization too much and i dont like how its a chance to unlock a new set of armor or a repainted version of a common armor with rare slapped on it with a little blue line in the middle of the armor. maybe have armor unlocked by ranking up and have weapons, vehicles, etc unlocked in req packs.
Armour certifications. Unlock the certification in a req pack (cosmetic or same pack types as seen in Halo 5), ability to purchase specific items of that armour using req points (which have to be earnt not bought for real money), done
Reqs are better than paid DLC.
