Guys, I’ve been around since Halo 1 on the old Xbox. LAN parties, online afterwards, everything. I can tell you that my heart bleeds now because they have toned down the aim assist for the controller. I’ve tested Infinite extensively with the controller and now also with mouse and keyboard. If you really want to play Halo competitively and have a chance you should switch to mouse and keyboard.
Yes, it feels wrong. You’ve played it differently for years… but if you look at it as a different game, as something new, you can have a lot of fun. Halo as we knew and loved it is now sadly history. Nevertheless, I wish everyone well, but I have given up hope for the controller in Infinite.
I’m worse with M&K. It’s horrible
It’s funny, but I was the opposite: I was really looking forward to enjoying Halo with keyboard and mouse on my gaming PC, but when I sat down and played it, it didn’t feel like Halo to me. Only when I connected my XBone pad did it feel “right” to my hands.
That said, super grateful for the input flexibility though. Nice win for those with accessibility needs, since keyboard/mouse is more readily redirected to other input devices than gamepads.
Now everyone can play however they prefer!
I agree that the aiming needs assistance, however I gotta kind of point out that halo 1 had little to no AA. It was pointed out when the AA was dramatically increased in halo 2 to compensate for the new territory of online play.
Aim assist feels fine. It’s not overly rewarding like Reach, 4, and most especially 5. Most of the time you’re just peppering them with the AR.
If you are struggling to aim in Halo Infinite check out my thread by searching “Need help aiming in Infinite?”. The default controller settings are different compared to past titles so this thread should help you change it to feel better.
You are just straight wrong all the MLG players and pro players from other FPS are swapping to controller because its way better lmao.
Aiming on controller feels fine to me man. I swear idk what all these people did to their settings to eff it up so bad hahaha
If they dont fix controller aim, I wont play at all.
It’s like Halo 5 all over again.
Wish they didn’t screw with aiming so much that it makes the game unplayable.
I had to do alot of adjustments to get my aiming right on Infinite. I used my settings from Halo 5 as a baseline, increased acceleration, changed my right thumbstick, increased my deadzone, and now I can win alot of gunfights. I was really struggling for a while but after I found that sweetspot I’m fine. While it’s true that given the weaker aim assist and the higher skill ceiling with MKB, you can really rise up in the ranks, I think the same goes for Controller if you can find your sweet spot in the settings
imagine having to aim in a shooter game
Tournament level play will still be Controller dominated. Teamwork and EZ BR consistency will always win more over time.
You’re not entirely wrong about Online Ranked play though. A lot of the weapons in the game are actually just better than the BR if you can hit your shots and Mouse isn’t reliant on whatever aim assist/bullet magnetism balance the devs have decided on. The scariest individual players I’ve come across so far have been on Mouse. People out here breaking ankles and Mangling folks like they have the CE pistol.
I feel in the middle…. Sometimes i have absolutely amazing games with controllers and then i have some meh games but mostly because i get double teamed….
Idk man, i seem to be doing fine
I feel it’s important to take these types of posts with a grain of salt. Controller is not ideal, sure. But 95% of the community isn’t going to be playing at that same high level competitive play where the minor advantages even matter. The same goes for MKB players, majority of them aren’t skilled enough to even take advantage of the hardware. Play what’s most comfortable to you.
I agree. Unfortunately, I just don’t enjoy M&K… It’s made me stop playing.
The biggest problem for me is the turn speed on controller is glacial. This is the case even when you max sensitivity, acceleration, and input thresholds. What’s weird is that in this theoretically fastest setup, you can drop sensitivity with no perceptible slowing in turn speed… I’ve timed it, and it takes exactly 1 second to 360 on all settings over 5. Then, on 1, it takes 1.1 seconds… I don’t think there should be just a 10% turn speed difference between the lowest and highest sensitivity settings…
This makes time to get cursor on target super unbalanced between input devices, particularly with sudden appearances or movements. Controller might have an advantage due to AA in scenarios where there are long straight corridors, but M&K wins in every other situation if you can maintain aim.
Does anyone know if you can turn off aim assist for controller?
