Honest feedback from an original fan

One thing ive learned in the past is that current game in a series will always be compared to previous titles. Nearly always, players will have that original experience in mind whenever they play a new title and make their assumptions around such. That being said, a game company is never going to release an exact replica of previous titles just with better graphics, its never going to happen.

So now comes the idea of adapting, learning how to play in harmony with all the new. This is where i think many of us seem to put on blinders and scream about how Halo 2 was the best series has ever been, and how 343i doesn’t care about the hardcore fans, etc. etc. You have to really step back and say, ok what’s actually good and what’s actually bad in this game. Some changes made to sequels are undeniably bad decisions, but most of the time they’re just misunderstood changes that when everyone jumps on the bandwagon can be blown out of proportion.

Halo has always been one of my favorite video game series and ive been a huge fan ever since CE. That being said, Halo 4 feels more “Halo” should than ever before. Granted, its not a copy and paste version of Halo 3 but im having a lot of fun with it. Every player that picks up the series for the first time at Halo 4, will be just as awe-struck as you were when you took up this game for the first time.

All this being said, ive learned to see Halo 4 as its own separate game and form my opinions not on how Halo 4 stands up to Halo 3/2/CE but how Halo 4 stands up to itself. Ive adapted and must say, Halo 4 a fantastic game and im loving every minute of it. Sometimes all the complaining and hate really baffles me when Halo 4 is probably the most complete, high-tech, effort-backed, polished, and intelligently designed game we’ve seen in quite some time.

Halo 4 is truly a worthy Halo title but i would be lying if i said it was 100% perfect. I don’t have nearly as many complaints as the rest of you but one thing i will admit, i am not very fond of is the idea of ordinance drops. Its adds an unneeded aspect of randomness to the game and changes the flow of maps and gameplay in a bad way. Other than that, there might be a few minor things here and there, but thats pretty much it. Not sure if it will ever happen, but removing ordinances would definitely make the game better IMO.

All in all i think everyone needs to chill out and just play the game. Its a great game and if you learn to adapt and accept the new, im sure you all will have just a much fun.

I think the last five Call of Duty titles have all been the exact same + one new kill streak in every new game.

So technically, you’re right.

Sorry I made a CoD reference.

I like seeing positivity on these forums. It’s always people complaining( which is fine if its constructive ). The truth is that forums are always bad though, bungie.nets forums were worse then this, those guys hated everything. Halo2sucks.com is another example, when it was up at least.

Great post! Complaints about Halo 4 really are blown out of proportion, and people need to realise that the other games had problems too. People expect too much from sequels in my opinion, and I think people need to accept the changes. Sure, people will have things they dislike, but no game is perfect.

Great post man! I love seeing Feedback instead of complaining and over all hate.

Finally someone understands

Sometimes its just hard to watch such an overall great game get trashed so hard day in and day out.

Its a great game, i just wish there was less magnetism, and thrusterpack was better.

Hey man!
I’m with you.

You contradict yourself. If you look at Halo 4 itself and not how it stands up to other titles, how do you adapt?

Applying your logic i can say Halo 4 custom game options are awesome because, you know, there are custom game options. Halo 4’s gametypes are awesome because there are different gametypes.
But when you have the whole franchise in mind you realise that options and gametypes were taken away which is not good.

The truely sad part is that 343 had the possibility to satisfy all people playing Halo 4 but instead choose to cater to a specific portion.

Megaman released the same game 10 times, and Megaman X was the same game I believe 7 times.

Every single game in the Megaman and X franchises is popular. Some slightly less than others, but only based on things like music, and level difficulty. Not based on the gameplay itself.

The thing is, regardless of what anyone says to defend it or say it’s wrong. Halo 2 remains the best Halo game in the franchise. The art direction, level design, and gameplay mechanics were top notch. It was silly not to just refine and capitalize on the system they had in place.

Halo 3 should have tried to be Halo 2, with more weapons, and no glitches. Instead they decided they needed to slow player movement, implement random factors such as widening bullet spread on most weapons, and giving Melee attacks far more power than they need. And change Halo campaign’s very intentional “Badass from start to finish” storytelling and campaign, into “Master Chief has EMOTIONS (lol)”.

And AR starts was specifically designed to “noobify” the game so that new players stood a better chance against veterans. And bullet travel made online play unbearable at times. And then there was equipment. A completely horrible idea, throwing an equipment basically turned a fight into a mosh pit every time, unless it was a Grav Lift or some other useless one.

Since then, Halo’s “evolving” has only led to it becoming less and less what players want to play.

it’s funny how you guys see this as constructive feedback and if its about weapon balancing or gametype options it’s complaining and whining when everything the OP states is “Halo 4 is good cause it’s new. Now go adapt”.

Somewhat true. But me and hundreds of thousands of people still found Halo 3 to be extremely fun. While 2 was my favorite, 3 was definitely the most popular in my eyes.
