This may seem like a rant to some but this is my honest feedback about the challenge system.
I just want to play and have fun. Excluding challenges this game is really fun to play. It’s smooth, polished and feels really good and has so much going for it. It feels more like traditional Halo and it has brought me back to Halo multiplayer again and I love it for that.
But the challenges are literally making me not want to play anymore. They completely ruin the game for me. The game is good enough on it’s own to make me keep playing. I don’t need this artificial thing to keep me playing. And all it’s really achieving is the opposite. I’m starting to not want to play anymore.
It gets so frustrating to try complete some of these challenges. It gets frustrating to have to play a game mode I’m not in the mood for just to complete a challenge.
Please 343, I want to keep playing, but this challenge system needs to go, or be revamped, or take out challenges that are too specific. Maybe make the challenges broader and more applicable to multiple modes, playlists, game types, weapon types. It’s fine every now and again for events, etc… But every single week having to do and play in ways I don’t want to is way too frustrating.
Yeah, they’ve created a system which makes me not want to play the game
I’ve gone back to the MCC because of how little Infinite offers in terms of retention
& it really doesn’t help that the only way to “progress” in this game is an abysmal challenge system that forces you to play a certain way which sucks the fun out of your experience. ಠ_ಠ
In all honesty for me, the Challenges are probably what keep me playing Infinite.
Take that as both a good and bad thing. A good thing because I have something to work forward to and, for me personally, I don’t find the Challenges difficult and I enjoy nearly all the playlists save for Ranked. Spending an hour a day doing them before work on the weekdays usually has me easily completing them before the weekend hits and I’m able to sink my time into other games.
Now the bad part is that, without Challenges, I don’t see much reason to keep playing Infinite. Save for the Battle Pass, there’s no other ranking or anything to really work for as we do in other games. The gameplay is really good, don’t get me wrong, and I have fun with Infinite, but I would like more which is a problem with the game. More game modes, more maps, more options to play what you want which includes PvE like Firefight, a ranking or something to have the side benefit to keep playing as we’ve always had in the previous games, etc.
And, yes, even if I do have fun with the Challenges, I still think it needs Challenges that are more focused on players being able to play what they want rather than to be forced to just play Fiesta or Tactical Slayer or Fiesta or FFA, etc.
My solution is to not even look at what challenges are available. Don’t even nibble at that bait. Companies spend a lot of time and money creating and developing systems that keep players coming back. My first experience was with Modern Warfare 2 in 2009. You have to choose to let this go. It really is tempting but don’t let you put yourself in a bad situation.
I think what frustrates players the most isn’t because this system is just dogwater, it’s the fact that 343 themselves have already created a BETTER, more PLAYER FRIENDLY system in MCC which could be tweaked for Infinite’s monetization model.
Infinite’s system being so much worse than MCC is just unthinkable as to how it came about in the first place. And now, Infinite and MS will suffer for it because with lesser people engaging with their business model, the lesser money they could have earned up till now.
I pretty much nailed this whole week in three and a bit days with zero swaps.
They can still be better. But if you want the event items and/or the weekly I don’t think it’s anywhere as onerous as it was.
Look ahead. Plan your game selection. Batch things so that you are ticking off as many of them simultaneously as possible. Accept that some of them are going to be “challenging”. Prepare to be out of your comfort zone (eg. using a weapon you aren’t familiar with). Relax and make sure that first and foremost you are having fun (if you’re not, take a break and try again later).
