Holy crap the new Xbox commands!

They are adding these new commands:

CONTROL IMPROVEMENTS

  • Attack move Command – attack move issues a command to engage any enemies encountered on the way to a specific point on the map. Units issued this move command will continue to engage any enemies they encounter until the enemies are killed or the units that were issued the attack move command die. The units will proceed to the specified point after they finish engaging with the enemy. Press the “`” key and then “LMB” on the desired location to activate attack move on the PC. Hold the “X” button until it blinks on the desired location to activate attack move on the Xbox One. - Queued Movement Command – Players can now issue multiple queued orders to their units to follow. Hold “SHIFT” and “RMB” to activate issue multiple queued orders on the PC. Hold “RT” and tap the “X” button to issue multiple queued orders on the Xbox One. - Hold Position Command – We have added a new command allowing players to issue a hold position order to their units. To activate hold position on the PC, select any unit and press the “H” key. To activate the hold position command on the Xbox One, select a unit and double tap “LB”. - Building Command Groups – Now you can add a building to command groups. To add a building to a command group on the PC hold “CTRL” and “MMB” over the building you would like to add to the command group. Then hit “CTRL” and the number of the control group you would like to add the building to. You can set a rally point with “Y” and open the building’s radial menu with “R”. To add a building to a command group on the Xbox One, hold “RT” and press “LB” over the building you would like to add to the command group. Once selected you can assign the building to a command group like normal using “RT and the “Dpad”. The “Y” button will open the building’s radial menu when the command group is selected.

Many of these such as Command Groups and Attack Move commands were requested by some hardcore RTS players from time to time, I really hoped these would be added but seriously was NOT expecting they would get added! Thanks 343/CA this is a gift to the community <3

This is honestly some impressive news. I hadn’t expected to see any new implementations to controls or groupings. This could really raise the ceiling for skilled play and just makes for a more indepth experience for the rest of us average players.

It seems like they are really giving the game an overhaul with ATN just around the corner, first the spectator mode, then now this! Looks to me like although the devs may be jumping ship right after the final expansion comes out, it doesn’t mean they can’t go out with a bang :wink:

It sounds like you can only have 1 building on a control group, which will take more time to queue up stuff instead of just jumping to the base quickly for a production cycle

True, but I’m sure that for some instances it could still come in handy.

Yeah I don’t understand the attack move. I was hoping for a straight move option so my units wouldn’t waste time attacking when I am trying to run away.

What issue are you referring to with money pick ups. The only issue I have seen is when the crates are in scattered bundles. For some reason the devs treated the crates that are slightly scattered about in multiple bundles as multiple bundles instead of just one bundle. So your unit just collects whatever bundle you clicked on and moves on.

I appreciate these changes, kinda surprised to see them but I’m very appreciative!

What, all of this stuff is optional, you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to. I used move attack on Warcraft and Starcraft a lot, I know it’s lazy but it’s a feature people like. Furthermore melee units will be benefited from attack move saving up precious micro.

Have you tried switching controllers? My RT has never failed on mine.

It’s already in the game you just press X, the movespeed is unaffected as far as I can tell. Why would you want to lose dps on purpose? (only instances in which I can see this maybe as an issue would be hornets or Banshees).

The RT has a delay when cycling between units which prevents good players from correctly controlling their armies. It is caused by having RT combo button commands and is a huge reason why this game is not enjoyable for me to play.

Yea, the delay on cycling units is really annoying. I know they added the RT+Y command to cycle units, which is much more responsive, but its just an extra button that I have to push as a workaround to something that is already in the game (RT button) but just doesn’t work properly.

RT + Y fixes that.

I know it’s a workaround, but it’s snappy and works.

I know you’ve probably already had someone tell you this but ill just post it for anyone reading that is unaware. If you hold RT, you can use the Y button to cycle through units and its fairly responsive except on occasion when it overshoots the unit you want.

If you RT+Y cycle quickly it will automatically jump to the next unit when you release the trigger.

I think the building command group will be better on pc since that is a simple press of numbers 1 thru 10. Pretty useful. But command groups on xbox are so clumsy as they are having to press two buttons at once, that I don’t see this as being very useful.

This is as much as surprise to me as it is you man, I didn’t even think this was a problem!
This’ll be freakin amazing to play around with and find a more efficient way of commanding on Xbox eh!

I’m really glad they’re being implemented but its going to be a job to remember them all unless its available in the UI.
