Holy cow...

I have always liked Forge a lot; building maps is really fun and all.

But after seeing the new Forge World for Halo 4 (the Space themed one) and seeing more details for “Player Trait Zones” and seen those new features in action, as well as new pieces specific to each of the 3 worlds, and the regular pieces being skinned or “themed” to fit each distinct world… I might actually use Forge more than anything else!

This is going to be so great, and with dynamic lighting in place, I would actually LOVE there to be a “Forge” playlist in multiplayer (eventually, once the game has been out for a while and Forgers get acclimated with all the new features and build good maps) that incorporates well-designed maps!

It would be FAR less repeatitve, visually speaking, than Reach’s just due to having 3 different worlds and having the pieces “fit” with each of the world’s theme. But also, player trait zones will allow for a TON of new gameplay/map-flow options, and create a ton of variety in terms of how maps play and work.

And they’ll LOOK more “real” due to the lighting and won’t look like lego-created structures placed in the grass lol.

So stoke for the third world and more features to be revealed!

What do you think the theme of the last Forge World will be?

EDIT:

The third world is CAVERN LOOKING WORLD! Just saw it in the video for the SPACE one, it shows a split-screen portion where he’s talking about all the different worlds, and one looks like a brown CAVE-themed world, like “Waterworks” only more brown-ish!

I think it might be either snow or woodland, but more snow i think because it can provide a flat environment for forging.

> I think it might be either snow or woodland, but more snow i think because it can provide a flat environment for forging.

I’d love a snow theme as well. Maybe with it snowing slightly, and with an area with a cave/caves (like Reach’s Forge World had near the outer edge of the map), and a big wide open area as well. Maybe have it snowing slightly too. Not a lot, just enough to give it some more sense of winter and not just white/blue texture.

That’s another thing: I hope if it is a winter theme, that it’s not entirely white and gray; that it’s more white/blue with some slightly expose rock surface area (like in the cave area). Something like “Longbow” only a bit more “wintery”. Longbow tends to feel like a “Winter going on Spring” feel, like it’s about to start melting and such. I want a true winter-themed world, like the last mission of Halo 3, but only much more graphically impressive obviously (staying true to the rest of Halo 4, which looks AWE-MAZING).

I am just stunned!
Finally we can have SPACE BATTLES from Battlefront II!!

I’m thrilled about the third world too.In other news, the new forge mode has even less color than Reach, even less versatile pieces and even more glass. And whose brilliant idea was it to divide the pallets between three different environments instead of allow free mixing of all pieces on all maps. GG, 343i.

Not buying this game. Highly disappointed. I’m done.

just seeing the space map makes me think that the hornet is coming back (honestly, do you think you can fly helicopters in space?)

As long as I don’t have to suffer through the same green and gray maps like in Reach’s multiplayer. I hated that so much.

am i the only one that hears “In each four maps, of our forge maps…” at 0:37 in that game spot video??? i swear he said there were 4 forge maps…

I heard something like that too… Probably a mistake though.

That’s due to a lack of color contrast in pieces on Impact, but any good forger could make a map that looks much better by using contrast accordingly.

How does having every piece from Reach returning along with new ones make Forge less versatile? Please enlighten me.

Here’s to the hope that 343i has fixed many of glass’s lag problems from Reach. If not, just limit sightlines better, and framerate issues caused by excessive glass will disappear.

Making every object usable on every map would take up an unholy amount of disc space, because each piece would have to have its own model, lightmap, and textures in every map file. Multiplayer already takes up 8gb of space.

Really? I realize that the fanbase is torn on multiplayer, but does the campaign really mean nothing to you? Besides, the pieces on impact don’t seem to fit the setting or lighting well, and that’s my main problem with the map. However, Ravine looks fine in this respect, and there’s a map we haven’t been shown yet. I can’t force you to buy the game, but you’re freaking out over nothing.

WRONG.

If you watched the video, you’d see each world has the pieces skinned differently, so there’s more variety there.

You’d ALSO see that each world has the FULL list of Forge objects, PLUS a menu JUST for the pieces specific to that world (i.e. the space world, IMPACT, has all the regular “Blocks, Bridges, Inclines, Buildings, etc.” selections, PLUS a menu called “Impact” that has the pieces that are designed specifically for that space-themed world).

Good. Don’t buy the game. I don’t want a melodramatic nancy like you playing the game and ruining it for me anyway. So thank you

With Ravine having Forerunner based objects (like Forge World) and Impact having UNSC based objects, I don’t think it would be an unreasonable to say that the third map might feature a Covenant theme.

oh you knnow what? i think he says “in each of our maps” they sound similar though

I’m hoping for a sand canyon of some sorts. the footage we got in the gamestop video showed a cave like waterwork. I’m hoping you can get out of the cave as well and do forging outside.

The cave looked like it could simply be another part of Impact to me.

> The cave looked like it could simply be another part of Impact to me.

No. It’s a completely different colour, and there’s sun shining through the roof.

There’s no sun on Impact at all. It’s all moonlight.

And it has different styled set pieces (i.e. they’re more tan-coloured, and look a bit more rustic/dirty). So it’s a new Forge world.

Besides, they showed Ravine in one square, Impact in another, and then a third brown-cave looking one in another (they also showed another square for Ravine, just to split the screen up evenly and fill it with something). They did that whilst talking about “the different Forge worlds and they’re specific piece styles”. It’s not an extension of Impact, I can promise you that.

Actually, it looks like the next map is in a giant cave. Human-themed I think.

We know, lol. I edited my post a while ago to add that, and we’ve been discussing it for several posts now

Well I hope you’re wrong, at any rate. I would hope for the third world to be a bit more unique then yet another rocky backdrop and seemingly UNSC themed buildings (ie Impact). Once is cool, but twice seems unnecessary. =/
