So next flight was announced and we will be getting PVP, Arena and BTB as well as training mode! One thing i wasnt expecting was
Objective modes
So maybe CTF?
If capture the flag game mode will be available for the next flight to test out. I got thinking about this video i saw on YouTube. This youtuber is good for Halo news and all things halo. He has a video about a theory, that in CTF you can hold the flag on your back, like its in your inventory! You can walk and shoot your assault rifle while holding the flag on your back. Check out the video here and skip to 1:12
I think from what he explains i can see this happing in the next flight if we get CTF.
I can see 343 putting this new way to play CTF to test.
So should they bring back the Flagnum or just have the classic running with the flag no guns?
I personally would want the classic way to have the flag wasn’t a fan of the Flagnum in halo 4 but i would like to see how this new way of CTF would work? Sprint after all has only a 9% increase speed so being able to hold the flag and shoot/throw grenades means you can defend yourself, its interesting? I wonder will it be liked, will it work well or will it feel too OP and it will be game breaking because it will be harder to kill the flag carrier. How could they balance it?
How you think this new way of CTF will work. Will it even be in the next flight?
Not sure about this. I think it’s probably best to stick to making the flag carrier hold it correctly instead of the back since be kind of annoying if the flag carrier is using power weapons. Plus flag carriers should be the one being protected and not the one carrying the team plus it encourages team work.

Yes and yes. Feel the same way. It would be weird if you could just run and gun with the flag on your back. Everything so far from the flight seems more player focused than team focused. Hopefully we get more team focused gameplay mechanics. All we had so far was the drop wall. Would like to see more team based equipment. Seeing how 343 have changed so much and tweaked things in the past, this new way to run and gun with the flag wouldn’t surprise me. It would be interesting but i would like it to be balanced. How it would be balanced, ive no idea. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Flag running requires strategy, if you can carry rockets and the flag then that severely diminishes the objective. What if you can put the oddball on your hip and run around with a Bullpup or Heatwave? I feel like the objective loses out in gameplay quality if that happens.
I’m really interested to find out what the trade off is if we can put the flag on our backs.
Like if I choose to hold the flag instead of a firearm, how does that change my player? Faster? One hit melee? Hide the flag location to enemies? I feel like something’s got to be different right?..
I’m still of the opinion that it’s an in-game animation and you can’t put the flag on your back. I see no reason you’d hold the flag otherwise.

Yes to the team work. Flag carriers can’t see everything and very often get killed and lose their flags if they’re trying to shoot people up with their magnums. I’ve done flag carrier escort duty plenty of times. An idiot who carries the flag and loses it can very easily cost their teammates the victory.
Mmmm I feel like either make them hold it traditionally or it take a weapon slot. So the carrier only has one gun. And make it so they can’t sprint. You might even balance it further by decreasing their movement speed and jump height slightly. It’s a hard one for me. I like to allow them to innovate and see where it goes… But I’m on the fence about it too. I mean, I guess maybe do both? Or test both and see how the community responds.

In Halo: Reach there is a game mode called TU Shotty Flag and in that you hold the flag on your back and hold a shotgun exactly like it was shown in the video mentioned so i hope it could be possible, that would be interesting.
I wouldn’t really like that much. I also didn’t like the Halo 4 & 5 addition of holding a pistol while carrying the flag. But what I really don’t like is that obnoxious practise of constantly dropping and picking up the flag. It is so annoying! “Flagdroppedflagtakenflagdroppedflagtakenflagdroppedflagtaken” Grrrrrr…
Anyway, apparently you can put “objectives” into the rear compartment of the Razorback. Naturally I assume that includes the flag. Hopefully one of the big maps (there will probably be just the two from the E3 multiplayer trailer) have the Razorback on it, because it would be fascinating to try it out!

while BTB is in the next flight perfect chance to test it out
I personally prefer the classic CTF, where you don’t have access to weapons, but a smack with the flag is an insta-kill.
However, I think having the option there would be good for the game mechanically, as you would then be able to create custom games were a player could be carrying an objective while still having full functionality.
A lot of mini games are born from the quirks in gametypes like infection and KotH, and having and Objective Carrying mechanic like this could come in handy for that sort of thing.
I think this whole flag on back thing still isn’t confirmed and is still pure speculation. There’s a few shots in the Multiplayer trailer that suggest it may be the case but that footage doesn’t look solid.
The one glimpse of the flag on the players back for a second then goes to their hand looks more like a bug to me to be honest.
Until I actually play CTF and see it for myself I don’t really buy into the idea that this is how CTF is going to work. I may be wrong, but I don’t think I am.
I’m on the side of making the flag carrier only able to melee, without any weapon use at all. I think it forces carriers to be more tactical and encourages teamwork.

Completely agree. 343 also really doesn’t have a reason to make such a big change to the game type and if they meant to the flag grab in the first MP reveal would have showed it as well.
Apparently the flagnum is no longer the base load out for CTF but I’m not surprised if that’s still available in custom settings.
Maybe it will be in an option but it appears to be an animation that isn’t even perceptible to the human eye, the image of it on a Spartans back is captured by breaking it down by frames. Must be automatic to equip as player wouldnt have that type of reaction/input speed. It’s unconfirmed either way.
Maybe there will be a game mode or option to put it on your back, but sincerely hope not.
If running with flag is as quick as juggling I will be very sad. Not only do I think juggling is the most satisfying thing to do in Halo, I love the trade off of speed but giving away your position. Adds fantastic strategy options to CTF. Game mode won’t be the same without it. Halo 4’s version of CTF was extremely poor in my opinion.
the chasing team would be in a disadvantage, the defending team can wait in corners and power position, and tha chasing team has to push, which is harder
I wouldn’t like that as the flag capturer is supposed to be vulnerable and protected by his own teammates. Flagnum made that obsolete, but seeing now that we get the classic no gun flag back so many people enjoy. Having an ability to carry guns and a flag is op. Getting the flag back to your base should be hard and not something that is a breeze
