is it possible for SMG to be in halo 4???

Yes, most people think the SMG is only a dual wield weapon, but ODST showed that the SMG can be useful for more than just a dual wield weapon.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing the SMG and Plasma Rifle both come back as Sidearms.
But I have a feeling there will only be 3 sidearms in the game, and the 3rd will be a Prothean Automatic.
Whatever happened to the Mauler by the way? Who else would like to see them modify and balance it to be a close-range sidearm?

Actually the silenced part would be very ineffective, but if they make a new version of the SMG, with a longer barrel, scoped like the ODST SMG, and give it a burst feature, like the BR, but instead of 3 rounds, 12 or 15, it’d turn the SMG into a more useful carbine like SMG.

If they treat the Silencer like Crysis treats it’s, then the cloak + silenced weapon combo would be over powered. But it’d funny hear people complain about how they don’t hear the weapon go off.

yes, I know, I was inspired by some real life weapon mods.
I think it’s going to be a secondary weapon.
I too, would like to see it return as a secondary. I think it would fit that role well.
I would love it if the silenced SMG returned. The fact that it was silenced, and the way it looked attracted me so much

Yeah, having a Prothean weapon would be awesome. I’d love to use the Prothean Particle Rifle. Who doesn’t love a weapon with unlimited ammo?
Of course its possible…although it seems unlikely.
Personally, I think it could work in 2 ways…and yes, I would love to have it back.
For instance it could be back as a secondary weapon in the form of the ODST version. With a scope, moderate firepower but the advantage of high rate of fire compared to other side arms.
OR
It could return, cheat the “no dual wielding” thing a bit and not come as a single weapon, but always as a set. In other words: regular SMG’s as we could use them in H2/3, just not being able to pick up or ditch one of them. In effect this would mean the 2 weapons would act/count as 1.
They could then be a “primary weapon” that acts as a better alternative to the AR on close range (high ROF, high spread, but low damage per bullet), but would be outperformed on anything from short range onwards by the AR.
Since there will actually be a sidearm role in this game, I would love to see the SMG return, silenced or otherwise. An automatic sidearm would really add some more variety as well.

Yeah, the first time I ever used the SMG, was in fact in Halo Custom Edition, dual wields don’t work well in Halo CE’s engine. So I got to use the SMG as a single wield weapon, A LOT, so using the SMG as a single wield weapon is normal for me.
It should just be a primary weapon because it would be far too strong compared to the plasma pistol and magnum.

15 round burst? dont get me wrong i wouldnt hate this it would give me time to take a drink or take a bite while killing someone, but it seems a lil much i mean what do you do when you take someones shields down then swap to smg and kill someone with the first 3, 5 shots? Thats waisting alot of time and precious ammo while the other 10 shots are going off.

Would it still qualify as burst if it were 12-15 rounds? Sounds more like a spray.
OT: I can’t see it beeing too effective without dual wielding, but why not?

… Sort of.
The scope helped but the SMG is quite ineffective on Legendary and in FF, great for shieldless Buggers, not so much for anything else when playing on Heroic or Legendary.
For H4, the SMG, if “balanced” for MP, would function nearly exactly like the Storm Rifle does, minus the overheating part. It’s not that it can’t be in H4, it’s just that its usefulness compared to Firepower+Storm Rifle as a secondary, or the M6 and PP being other options, there really isn’t a way to balance into the sandbox.
If it is in H4, it will be the “worst” of secondaries and function as a personal choice for a player to handicap themselves, for reasons only the player can explain.
It wouldn’t drain shields quickly, it doesn’t headshot and the Storm Rifle does what the SMG would do, only better.
The SMG is best as a dualing weapon and dualing should act different than H2/H3.
Dualing should be about making “Unreal-type” setups for short ranged combat without penalising either hand. Players should be able to melee without tossing their 2nd weapon away. And if a player wants to toss a 'nade, then either swap to another weapon (which puts both duals on the legs and doesn’t toss 1 away), and/or allow duals to be cycled in a way that allows a player to either carry 2 2-handed weapons, or carry 1 2-handed weapon and cycle through the duals so that they can be either single-wielded ( to toss grenades or swap out for another dual-able type) or be dual-wielded (no grenades but can swap either hand).

I think the Collector Particle Rifle was a lot cooler, though that did have ammo if I remember correctly.
