Hmm... apparently Halo: CE is in the 3rd best year of gaming history

I was looking at Yahoo! today and noticed an interesting article and apparently Halo is in of 3rd best year in video game in history.

I think the year that got 1st place was pretty obvious, but you know I realize now that Halo is a pretty historic game. Now I feel old when it seemed like a brand new game instead of a timeless classic back in the day.

Umm, that’s “Best Year in History,” not “Best Game.”

I know, my bad, I need to learn to read, :stuck_out_tongue: still a big year though.

Halo Combat Evolved actually WAS one of the most influential FPS games ever to come out. It pretty much turned consoles into viable platforms to play FPS on. Nearly every FPS game since the release of CE uses things that were original to CE, such as the main and secondary weapon platform, grenade limit, melee button, locked multiplayer lobbies with game limits, as well as various other things.

Not many people remember the days of having to scroll through every weapon you have picked up so far, or having people standing on a grenade spawn and spamming the map with explosives, or having to equip a knife to melee, or not being able to “win” a game because you joined late, and someone had 1000 kills, or endless games. That’s the way you had to play before Halo came out.

Even Halo 2 was fairly influential. It was one of the first (if not the first) game to have regenerative health instead of having to pick up a med pack. I know that COD didn’t have that until after Halo 2 came out, but there may have been third party games that might have.

Considering that Halo is a fairly new FPS franchise, it has done remarkable things for itself and the gaming community as a whole.

And you thought YOU felt old? I feel old just being able to remember inventory screens during online matches… shivers
