Prologue: When I created this post, it was nearly a year before this edit, with that being said, this topic has been combined with a ton of other threads on HLG, hiding, and MLH. The main body of this post was intended to get people interested in a fun and different way to play Halo Reach and many other Halo titles.
First and foremost, I want to point out that this isn’t a shameless self promotion or advertisement! And that I will be explaining what HLG (Hidden League Gaming) is, what we are about, and why someone would want to join our community!
KSI, MEA, WAY, -Yoink-, MLG, and the list goes on…
Online gaming and gaming communities go hand in hand. You can call them guilds, or clans, or…whatever. But it all boils down to being the same thing: a community where YOU the player can be a part of something.
Gaming communities promote social interaction, bolster your own player skills, and allow you to feel a sense belonging to something much bigger.
Unlike KSI, MEA, or most of the other Online gaming communities, Hidden League Gaming requires NO initiation, there is no fee, there is no tryout, and it’s easy to join.
Since 2008, the Hidden League Gaming community has been active and alive, going into matchmaking on SEVERAL gaming titles with the intent to play and have fun. Our goal is to play with a tactical approach to whatever game we play, with the intent of having fun and securing a win.
Predominantly, HLG has presided in First Person shooters such as Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Reach, the Call of Duty series, and a few others. Our core tactic is to gain the lead in a game through skill and in depth knowledge of game mechanics, and then Hide for the rest of the game. Some say it’s cheap, and it is, but it’s also been acknowledged as a legitimate strategy that has produced game winning results time after time and again.
"That’s just camping, and camping is for n00bs"
Wrong. Camping is sitting in a corner with either a CQB weapon or some other quick kill weapon with the intent to ambush and secure kills by waiting them out. What we do is secure the lead by five or ten points (which, if the game has progressed this far into your favor then your obviously going to win anyway), and then find a nice secure location to hide in, and NOT kill your opponents should they come near.
"Then that’s just Griefing, and griefing is for jerks who just want to ruin the game experience for others!"
This is also WRONG. At the end of every game that I have hid in, I’ve always said “good game” to my opponents, and on multiple occasions I have even taken the time to show the other players how to do what I did (which by Bungie’s definition is NOT cheating). I have done Griefing, and there is a STRONG difference between the two.
"Hiding is for bad kids that can’t win otherwise, if you ‘HLG’ then your bad."
Try again. In Halo 2, when subjected to early quitters, modders, host booters, derankers, and more of the less than savory types of players, people took to doing super bounces with objectivs (Bombs, flags, etc…) in order to tip the balance of the game to be fair. Cheating was rampant in H2, and as a result, super bouncing became very popular. We’ve been around a looooong time. As far as winning without Hiding: that couldn’t be any farther from the truth then possible! In Halo 3, I was a level 50 (my 50 was in lone wolves, doubles, swat, and snipers) and I did NOT hide to get my 50’s. It in fact caused you to rank up slower. But HLG was first formalized in H3, and it’s a fun way of playing the game. Try and think of it like Hide and Seek, you hide after securing an obvious win, and wait to be found! If your found, then the game starts all over, and you can try to get to another hiding spot! I’ve had tons of people that because I hid on them, it made the game interesting! Some of the people that I’ve hid on have later on joined the HLG community!
"This is Cheating, because you are denying your opponents the ability to attempt a comeback! Your only Hiding for wins!!!"
Wrong. In fact, there are a lot of times when people hide for the loss. Think about it, your losing a game, it’s getting boring just being rushed all the time by some people who have managed to control rockets, and never miss a head shot with the sniper, but you don’t want to quit out. Why not try to get in some crazy -Yoink- hiding spot? Think of your opponents reactions in the post game if you are found! There have been a few occasions where this has happened to me, and my opponents make the usual remarks about beating me, but then they invite me into their game to show them how to do what I did to get into a hiding spot! Gamers are oppurtunists. Look at the people who have abused Armor Lock in Halo Reach! Is it cheap to use Armor Lock? Yup. Is it cheating? Nope. It’s built into the game. And that goes for hiding spots as well. It’s part of map design!
So, if your looking for a gaming community to join, and have a lot of fun, Check out the Hidden League Gaming community!
Edit 1: Since the creation of this thread, the HLG community has grown, and in that time a smaller subset of HLG was created for the more experienced veteran hiders, and players that wish to be more a part of a community then what HLG has to offer, and we called it Major League Hiding, or MLH.
A good chunk of us upload video’s to Youtube of our exploits as well as montages and other cool stuff that we do!
