Had a horrible game of 1v4 when all my teammates quit on Countdown, and so I decided to HLG to keep my KDr up because that’s the only thing that’s important in Halo: Reach these days, and managed to get 12 kills compared to the 8 kills of the highest scorer on the other team.
Now, I know that I would have been completely obliterated if I went head on to four other guys, yet even though I lost that game I still looked like I was a fairly skillful player for ending up with a positive.
I turn to the community and ask, HLG is that really skillful?
Hlg is a term given to map maneuvering that is above average. What you did was the right choice fighting a 1v4 on their terms is suicide.
You should have quit you wasted everybody’s time.

I don’t think HLG means much since the addition of jetpacks.
I remember finding them under the floor on Countdown once. It was fun killing them while they were hiding and thinking they were safe. LOL
I think your strategy was the right one. Going 1v4 will result in almost complete doom for you.
My hat goes off for you for sticking through the whole game. There’s way too many quitters anymore.
I remember thinking HLG was just phrase, a term to describe people who like to hide/break maps.
Then last night I played 2 guys with HLG in their gamertags. CRAZY.
I hope to god the rest of them are as bad as they were.

You don’t do that till you have the lead. Hiding without getting a kill ISN’T HLG mentality. Hiding while not in the lead is not HLG menality.
The idea of HLG isn’t to play a game and hide to save one’s K/D.

HLG mentality is to mind-frac you by forcing you to take the offensive against a defensively postured enemy when the score is against your favour.
When the score is against their favour, they are forced to go on the offensive.

Uh yeah they do. They hide the entire game and crouch around and wait for you to get so bored that you run around the map frantically, and they assassinate you.

Because it’s boring as hell! They need to make a “Hide N Seek” game variant for these HLG players to have fun in.

If you don’t want to risk these “boring” games, don’t play Matchmaking and stick to online tournament/custom games where your can enforce you ideals.

Lol Great advice Reaper. So to anyone who hates running around looking for 1 person who is crouched hiding just: DON’T PLAY MATCHMAKING!!!
This alone is the reason I support “join-in” sessions for H4 (for social matches). HLG players hide because they aren’t good enough to control the map, therefore they go crouch in a corner and wait for you to make a mistake, because if they initiate conflict they definitely will.
HLG when your whole team quits out, and hoping to preserve your precious KD is different. (Most normal people just quit.)

That is correct.
If you want to avoid certain types of players then avoid them.

If that’s how they loose against you, then other than having a boring match, what’s the problem?

The only rules that really matter are these: what a man can do and what a man can’t do. 
HLG are kids are just a bunch of trolls, and it takes no skill. Sure you wait to have the lead, but then what? You just hide? Why don’t you actually play the game and earn your win?
I heard that HLG started out just to troll MLG tryhards who take the game way too seriously, which is fine and understandable. But now they just do it to people who just wanna get online and have a good time. Just another case of something that started off organized and with a purpose, then turned into a bunch of idiots abusing it.
I found the HLG guys much more interesting in H3 before Jetpack. I still cannot respect it unless players have quit, as they had in your situation. I played a doubles game one time when the two kids on the other team went up 3-1, and then hid on Select outside of the map. I had no idea where they were. Really cheap tactics, but it’s ok if players have quit on your team.

Happened to me once. I was playing with a friend on a Forge world map (forgot the name) in Team-Doubles, they got a few kills then jet-packed out and then beneath the map!
We spent the remainder of the match just aimlessly walking around trying to find them.
I had to go back into theater to see where they hid.
I do not believe in HLG with full teams, but I endorse doing so when crippled by lack of team-mates.

Things that I freaking hate in Reach: Armor Lock, Jetpack, Quiters, Whiners and the HLG guys.
IMO, the guy who is MLG is just a coward. Yes, A COWARD.

They are just do*ches. I have encountered like in 3 or 4 matches and they are just dumb, little, stupid people.
I have a motto: “Never quit, never surrender”. I have been on 1v3 or 1v4 matches and the whole enemy team (when they kill me, even in the dumbest way) they mock of me. I just do what I do: Kill, be a warrior and don’t be a coward and quit a match and surrender.
I applaud for you, OP, for not quitting, but I don’t know what to think about hiding in the whole match.
TL;DR: HLG are a bunch of cowards. Don’t think about your K/D, try the best you can to win the match if not, well, there are more matches to do later. Be a warrior, not a coward.
