Hitscan with the DMR

If the DMR wasn’t a hitscan weapon do you think it would still be OP? should the DMR be a hitscan weapon, should it be changed for Halo 5?

Personally, I think it shouldn’t be a hitscan weapon since its primarily used for cross mapping and is easier to use compared to the Light rifle.

It would be imbalanced, just like the Halo 3 BR and provide too much advantage to host or near host players. Precision weapons and IMO most weapons have to be hitscan due to the online latency of online gaming. It’s the only reasonably fair and reactive method for online play.

In terms of on LAN play it would for the most part remain the same net outcome.

Regarding online SPOPS coop I’m not so sure the DMR is hitscan, the network model is synchronous hence why you have the delay when you move or fire. Everything is sync’d between all players in SPOPS. Which is very different to War Games multiplayer using an asynchronous networking model.

For newer Halo titles I hope they move coop modes for campaign/SPOPS to asynchronous like Gears of War 3 did. Then I hope they leave most weapons as hitscan.

For example in high end 50 ranked play the sheer disadvantage I have as an Australian player during Halo 3 was extreme. Bullet refunding, deaths due to network prediction, melee almost always resulted in an exchange of kills and far more events like having to wait for a grenade to be approved by the host.

For international players it’s almost like the DMR/precision weapons being hitscan are are one chance to combine our reflexes, movement and decision making into a winning formula. Thus I have to strongly disagree with removing hitscan from the DMR.

I think these games should be not used (unless to a slight degree necessary ie magnetism on the AR)

-hitscan
-magnetism*
-aim aasist
-FFFFFFFFFFFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

I don’t think it should be a hitscan, I prefer to lead my shots. Networking problems would get in the way though. I’d say just deal with it, but hey…that’s my thoughts.

I wish it wasn’t hitscan but for obvious reasons it is.

Hitscan is necessary on peer-to-peer matchmaking.

Removing aim assist is a bad idea. I know some people think that it would work, but try killing a teammate…waaaaaaaay to much work. In my opinion, take out the read reticle.

If DMR was changed to projectile and these projectiles were as fast as Halo 3 BR’s it would change anything. Except for those network issues which were mentioned before.

However if projectiles were as slow as Suppressor’s, DMR would be somehow balanced. However that would be just stupid for this kind of weapon.
