Hitscan or projectile human weapons

Which would you rather see and why?

What’s hitscan? I’ve heard it’s used in Doom 1993 but don’t exactly know what it IS, could you elaborate?

Hitscan is when a weapon is shot then damages the target immediately

Oh, that would be interesting to see, but that could be a problem for multiplayer, hitscan sounds like free hit and kills to me.

It’s not. That’s what Halo 5 uses rn, and the skill gap is massive in gunfights. I prefer hitscan over projectiles, because hitscan looks and feels better and more natural, while still maintaining the skill gap in fights.

It’s decent but not perfect, projectile would help alot IMO.
It would not only raise the skill gap but offer some interesting ways to balance different weapons

Projectile for all weapons that are not a literal laser.

There is no reason a AAA dev shouldn’t be able to build the proper netcode to support projectiles on all weapons in this day and age.

I think fast projectiles like H2 had is the way to go. In close quarters and mid range it works almost identical to hit-scan, but on long ranges and bigger maps you don’t end up with sniper-like BRs. So 4v4 is still competitive while BTB and Invasion works better overall!

well considering that no halo (except halo 5) has ever used hitscan, it safe to say that its going to be projectile based.

Projectile-based weapons would help prevent cross-mapping and encourage more movement, especially on BTB. That, and it adds more skill to gunfights, at least at a range.

It wouldn’t be a question of having “proper netcode”.

It’s a design decision the developer makes depending on what experience they want in their game.

CE: Projectile
H2: Hitscan
H3: Projectile
Halo Reach: Hitscan
H4: Hitscan
H5: Hitscan

Halo: Reach wasn’t actually hitscan. It’s projectiles were just so fast that they were effectively hitscan.

Not the best source, but here’s a Reddit user who conducted an experiment to find this out:

Projectile. Hitscan makes weapons very easy to use at longer ranges and one of the main complaints about some weapons like the AR is that they can kill at higher ranges that previous games. I blame hitscan because it allows better accuracy as you don’t need to lead your target whereas if it was projectile it would be harder and less effective at longer ranges but can be balanced damage and accuracy wise for close to midrange combat.

H2 and Reach using hitscan is myth my friend, they use fast projectiles. It FEELS like hitscan on most maps, but it isn’t.

Pretty much this ^

What I will say is some of these games kinda have it being a little mixed where some guns are projectile while others in the same game are hitscan. I won’t explain which ones as most people should know which ones you have to lead your shots with.

@OP: there’s an argument for both really, if you have -Yoink- internet you’ll prefer hitscan (there’s more pros to hitscan besides “making it easy to shoot” as some will put it). Projectiles suffer big time when online net codes go to crap IE Halo 3.

Personally It depends on the game I play when it comes to this stuff, I don’t want all my games I like to use projectiles but Halo is one where I prefer it over hitscan .

Same idea for me I prefer the classic mode
find to kill.

I don’t see any reason to have projectile weapons instead of hitscan ones as there aren’t large enough distances in Halo so that anyone could dodge a bullet, minus such weapons as rocket launcher or fuel rod as example.
Better with cases of lag.

I prefer hitscan but I’m fine with projectile as long as it’s not ridiculous

Just have REALLY fast projectile, makes the Sniper Rifle less OP and more balanced, while still holding that epic power.
