Each of the 4 halo games have switch off between Hitscan and having to lead your shots.
Halo: CE - lead shots
Halo 2 - Hitscan
Halo 3 - Lead shots
Reach - Hitscan
There is a possibility that in Halo 4 you will have to lead your shots, and I would prefer that because it makes shooting a little bit more difficult but it is bad for online play. So do you guys think Halo 4 would include Hitscan or Leading shots.
Yeah but remember that leading is prone to lag
Hitscan. It’s far more consistant in online play.
> Hitscan. It’s far more consistant in online play.
Agreed. I like knowing "I " missed rather than my shot not registering correctly. This is not to say that Hitscan is perfect but I will take it over the alternative.
> Hitscan. It’s far more consistant in online play.
My only problem with Hitscan is it just makes it way too easy to shoot because all you have to do is aim on them and anyone can do that. Look at CE for example that game took way more skill than any other halos because you really needed to have amazing aiming to lead you shots and get the kill. Other than that I don’t really mind it and it wouldn’t really bother me in Halo 4 used either or.

Absolutely agree. I think both have their merits but I prefer hitscan.

Yeah, same here. Hitscan really makes a difference with that stuff. Not having it in Halo 3 was one of the biggest problems I had with the game.
Yeah, hitscan over leading shots.
It depends on whether or not there are dedicated servers. Leading shots with P2P lags and creates too much host advantage, but it’s a better system overall on lan and with dedicated servers. It adds depth to shooting without any random elements.
Hitscan has its problems too though. Shooting becomes very simple, especially at long range, and sometimes the hosts readout of the game will lag and it looks like you got shot after getting to cover.
The inconsistency of the BR in Halo 3 is more due to spread and the fact that it shot three separately rendered bullets at a time, than registration problems. A single shot weapon with little spread, like the CE magnum, would not have had the same issues.
I would like to see hitscan again in Halo 4. Just works a bit better, imo.
Even if leading your shots worked online(which it doesn’t) it’s still pretty stupid.
Why do I have to lead my shots when im shooting you with a high powered rifle and you’re 10 feet away?

So decrease aim assist.
HCE was so much harder to aim in because it had a lot lower aim assist and no magnetism.

Ok…it doesn’t work like that
but it could work online if Halo 4 used dedicated servers.

Well that’s a good point but you and me both know that 343 will not decrease aim assist and bullet magnetism because then it just makes the game way to difficult for the casual players to play the game so the least they could do is make it leading your shots.
Hitscan. The primary reason it returned (most importantly for precision-based weapons) was because it worked better connection-wise.
Hitscan.
Ideally, for the largest skill gap, having to lead your shots is better, but the only way to ensure that you get the best registration for this is to play on LAN. Realistically, a much larger portion of the players will be playing this game on XBL, therefore hitscan is the better choice.
I actually want my shots to hit and register while playing online and not have the same experience I had with Halo 3 in this aspect.
I do agree that hitscan is better for online registration.
Dedicated servers and lead your shots.

It works fine battlefield 2, the tribes series, or any other game that uses dedicated servers.
Players did not have to lead shots that closely in CE. Halo 3’s bullet travel time was quite a bit slower than CE, which caused this problem.

Aiming is such an insignificant skill in Halo that it isn’t even a counterpoint to hitscan.
The benefits of hitscan in online play far outweigh the cons to losing that aiming skill gap.
