Except it does as shown in this video.
343i is blatantly lying to us nowIf I recall, they did say smart scope would effect spread and kickback on some weapons before. Also, this video doesn’t show us how the AR spread at a range, the guy is pretty close to the wall.
That being said, I don’t think smart scope should have an effect on the AR. SMG is understandable cause it actually has a scope.
EDIT: hold up. For some reason the video stopped loading after the first part. Let me watch the rest.

Smart scope shouldn’t even be in the game. Doesn’t make sense in Halo. The weapon is connected to your helmet and that’s you have a reticle. Allowing a weapon, which is meant for close to mid range, to be usable in long range isnt’t acceptable.
Either remove smart-scope or nerf the hell out of it. People rely on it too much and that means they broke the game, they said that themselves in a vidoc.

343 said at Halofest that hipfire would just be as accurate as it always was but as the video shows that is not the case.
Hipfire isn’t penalized. It’s that ADS gets a bonus.
It’s all about perspective. Heheh.
That’s the sane exact way hip fire has always been

Rely on it too much? Should they have removed zoom in the past because people relied on it?
How is relying on a scope to zoom in game breaking?

Then what is the purpose of hip firing in this game if the the smart scope is better.
To shoot while not limited in field of view.

Because the zoom is more accurate than the hip fire.
Go into Halo 3 forge right now, pick up a BR then shoot at a wall zoomed and unzoomed the guns accuracy stays the same. The only difference is zoom gave you a better sight up your target.
In Halo 5 on the other hand zooming is straight up more accurate.
Although it was wrong for 343 to lie, makes almost no difference in the actual game in reality. I’ve gotten loads of kills with the AR but only about 4 have been when scoped in, with descope its just not feasible in most situations to use smart link.

We tend to use the opposite perspective, as it’s more relevant to Halo.
For example, perks in Halo 4 give you advantages you wouldn’t have without them. Yet we see it as instead of having all perks all the time, you have to pick just one.
The justification for this example:
Arena Shooters are about empowering the player, not limiting the player to force team tactics. A player with all weapons and powerups can do anything, he isn’t restricted to role. Someone with a Railgun in Quake can also use Rockets and Shotguns.
Class Shooters are the opposite, every player is limited in some way so the entire team has to work together to cover each others’ weaknesses. A Recon in Battlefield isn’t allowed to use AR’s, no exceptions.
In the case of smart scope, we wouldn’t say scoped fire is better because it’s more accurate. We would say hipfire is penalized in the sense it’s less accurate than scoped fire.

Stop spreading lies. Hip and Scope fire has always had the same spread.
Hip Firing is typically used for close range situations where you’re not really needing to aim. The target is right there in front of you and you just want to spray bullets into them, not worried if some may scatter slightly because most will hit your target. This is typically called “spray and pray”, because of the lack of skill involved in it. But it also offers increased situational awareness of movement nearby.
ADS (Aiming Down Sights) is for situations where you want to aim skillfully at your target. Typically at a distance. The idea is that you will be more concerned about keeping your accuracy to your focus point. You get reduced situational awareness focusing on your target, but your accuracy improves due to that focus.
Both types of aiming have benefits and downsides. Skilled players learn when to use each to be most effective in combat for any given situation.
The hip firing is the exact same, the Smart Scope firing is so minutely tighter that it really doesn’t even matter.

First of all, the second half of that statement doesn’t follow the first half. Two contradictory statements.
Second, no it’s pretty significantly tighter.

I’ve seen images, its barely tighter, not even close to what normal ADS does.

Minutely tighter?
Asides from the fact it shouldn’t even have an advantage it is that is not a small difference.

It’s significantly tighter. The OP’s video doesn’t do it justice as he’s only standing a few feet away from that wall, but even then the difference is still very noticeable.
No, it’s not CoD levels of difference, but it’s still a significant difference.

I did, and it isn’t “significantly tighter”. It is tighter, sure, but not to such a degree that it breaks hipfire, or puts hipfire at a severe disadvantage. When using Smart Scope, you severely limit your FOV, which has a big impact on situational awareness. So while you might gain a small accuracy bonus, you make it not only more difficult to aim if you attempt to use it in close quarters, but no matter what distance you’re using it, you’re severely limiting your FOV, and thus your situational awareness. Not only that, but you also trade in the ability to use your radar, and a single bit of damage will knock you out of it.
