Hint at a Halo 2 remake

Read this IGN Q&A about the Halo CE remake and found something interesting.

"IGN: Will Microsoft be doing more HD remakes of original Xbox titles?

Spencer: Obviously Halo 2 is one that we’ve talked about. I wouldn’t say this is a strategy for us to go back and remake Xbox 1 games. This was the 10th Anniversary of Halo so it made sense. We don’t really have a “remasters” program that we’re kicking off with this launch. There are obviously some great Xbox 1 games that would be nice to see, but we’ve focused most of our resources on creating new things. I’m not putting it in or out of bounds right now, though."

I think it makes sense to remake halo 2 as well. To complete the series with achievements and waypoint access.

He basically said a Halo 2 remake is possible, but don’t get your hopes up.

I don’t expect halo 2 to remake within a couple of years. If they need to make it, it HAS to be perfect. So I guess giving them time would be useful

It would be cool to get it and a map pack for Halo 4 in 2014.

I would REALLY want to see a Halo 2 remake for numerous reason. The obvious one is online mp, I think everyone here share that. The second one, is not only having a remastered Halo 2 campaign without texture pop-in during cinematics, but also having a new improved campaign. You heard me right, I’d want to see Halo 2’s campaign revisited. Lately, I’ve been watching a couple of Halo 2 behind the scenes stuff, and it’s clear the Halo 2 we have now is not what was intended. There THREE missions that hit the cutting room because of not enough time as well as 2 cinematics would’ve been longer had they had more time.

So what I say, is that on top of a Halo 2 remake à la Halo CEA, 343 should add a new campaign (maybe totally remade, maybe just add the missing stuff, I’d probably lean on the second option) with all that was missing. I want the real Miranda introduction with the ODST squad aboard the Covenant carrier after Cairo Station. I want the Forerunner Tank mission for Chief right before he meets the Arbiter. I want the last mission where Chief jumped into the Forerunner ship with a warthog, have a proper closure with the Chief. I’d also like to see more Brute… brutality during the cutscenes when as the Arbiter you “rescue” Johnson, and the hand to hand duel with a Brute. I’d maybe (it was cut due to lack of time, but Joseph Staten seem to think it was cut for the better while CJ Cowan thought it would have made things better) want the additional bits during the cinematic between the Arbiter and the Prophet or Truth after the Brutes replace the elites, show more insight into the Covenant. All these things were clearly intended for the game, but never made it due to time constraints, and I think a remake of Halo 2 would be the perfect opportunity to present to fans what was the original complete vision of Halo 2. 3 missions and a couple of additional cinematic bits, doesn’t seem such hard work to me.

But really, no confirmation here, but depending on how well Halo CEA will do, I think it’s not far-fetched to believe Halo 2 will get its 360 treatment. After all, it would be the only Halo game to not be on the 360, the fans are asking for online mp, it has very annoying compatibility bugs on the 360, and I think everyone would love to be able to get toggle skulls without having to make accounts for each one and go through the missions all over again like I did.

This, but a Halo 2 remake would be nice, in my opinion it had the best campaign, but I can’t find an Xbox copy of it anywhere and I don’t own a PC to use a Windows version with.

Halo 2 remake would be awsome but im sure they wont bring it back with Halo 2 matchmaking.

Ya man i remember that stuff. Def could use a revised campaign.

It means “make us believe you want it.”

look on ebay. i got my xbox copy for £2.00

If CEA sells then you know MS will greenlight a Halo 2 remake.

Personally, I’d like to see a Director’s Cut with all the missing content completed and added. I doubt they’d bring back Halo 2’s online, but maybe a map pack for Halo 4.

I would love a remake of Halo 2 for one reason: The multiplayer level icons!

They were awesome. All the different colors and styles, and then the symbols in the high 40’s and 50.

I just hope they don’t adopt a ridiculous XP/Call of Duty style level up based solely on XP points.

The other thing I liked about the ranking system is that it wasn’t quite “true skill” like Halo 3’s was. It was basically you win and you’ll proceed towards the next level, lost and you’ll go down a bit. Remember the progress bars it would show on your Bungie.net stats? You never had that “locked level” like in Halo 3.

Halo 2 was great… the level icons were even better. Bring it back for sure!

I want it!!

I don’t think that they would bring back Halo 2 multiplayer because then people would be playing less

of the newest halo game

dude just wait for them to announce if their going to do this, this wouldnt come out until 2014 at the least… they still have other games comin out, so just wait for it… patience is a virtue…

If we are to believe Frankie was honest, he said that yes bringing the Halo CE online would compete with Reach, but the main reason is that we’d get a compromise. Now Halo 2 is already netcoded, so really, when he said it was a controversial but hard choice for CEA, imagine for Halo 2. There’d be a lot more of backlash. And I don’t think it would be that problematic for the newest Halo game: when Halo 3 was released, people played Halo 2 until the online got cut (and would have continued otherwise), and now, people still play the Halo 3 mp.

I’m sure most of you have seen that article going around where IGN interviewed someone high up at microsoft and he was talking about the Halo 4 engine. Well, earlier in that same interview when asked about another Halo remake he says:

" Obviously Halo 2 is one that we’ve talked about. I wouldn’t say this is a strategy for us to go back and remake Xbox 1 games. This was the 10th Anniversary of Halo so it made sense. With a Halo 2 remake within the realms of possibility, how would you guys like it done? Would you like it done like Halo CEA, where the gameplay isn’t touched and they just redid the graphics and added some basic stuff like achievements and online co op? What about multiplayer? I find it hard to see them splitting their player base with online multiplayer but I can’t see everyone not absolutely losing it if it goes the way of Halo CEA. Discuss.

I like Halo 2 but not enough to care about a remake.

I love Halo 2 but I think it would be too much
