I don’t care much for Reach’s style of gameplay but Highlands is probably one of the best maps I’ve played on in any Halo game. You get to drive the fun vehicles, don’t have to worry about spawn trapping, and you get plenty of cover. Its also reasonable to get to the hostile base on foot.
I’m actually not a huge fan of Highlands. I mean it’s probably the second best big map (that wasn’t forged) in the game below Breakpoint, just by default. But red base is at a severe disadvantage in that blue sniper has mad sightlines of top of that base, while on red there’s just a bunch of trees in the way. Blue also has an INSANELY useful pillar rock on their side for sniping at some unexpected angles, which red lacks as far as I know. Blue is also much more fortified. At the very least the colors of the bases should be switched, blue plays much more like a defense base and is much more difficult to retrieve a flag from.
Other things I’d like are some fusion coils/other hazards at top waterfall, that area is insanely overpowered. And shotgun camping, especially by teleporters, is out of control.
> Its a great map, but I play it way too much, which is annoying. I’d like to play some Condemned, but everyone votes for Highlands. Sighs
I hated Condemned so much at first, but now that I’ve finally learned the map I can’t get enough. After playing the usual -Yoink- in arena yesterday, I jumped into the Defiant playlist and it was a GIANT breath of fresh air. I would like to see a soft killzone in the central core though, people just love camping in there.
> Agree with OP. Highlands is one of my favorite Halo Maps EVARRRR!
> Condemned is right up there with it in my books too
I can’t say I disagree…but I do have my arguments. In all the trailers for this particular map pack they showed people piloting a Falcon…yet at launch it was removed. I want to know what happened to it.

The ceiling on Highlands is too low to use a Falcon. Maybe for Machinima, but certainly not during combat where you need as much room to menauver as possible.
Having the Halo 3 banshee on this map would be great. No super bomb and no psycho flip. With the rocket spawns on the bases I think it would play like Valhalla. Even with the low height.
But of course that can’t happen since this is Reach and everything is fubar. At least the ghost is on this map, even if its hard to get kills with it (its almost a death trap). Nothing like zooming along some cool terrain at high speed looking for a fight.
Yes. Thats why like this map, because its sort of a Valhalla with teleporters instead of man cannons and ghosts instead of banshees.
Valhalla was a great design. Symmetrical for even gameplay, scenery you expect from Halo, and spawns hidden away so you couldn’t camp the spawns(I’m looking at you hemorrhage). Plus, who doesn’t like man cannons?
