It turns out to me that both fred and kurt are higher than MCPON, fred being 1st lieutenant and kurt being lieutenant commander. There is also Carter-259 who was a commander who was also higher than John. I dont understand how can they be of a higher rank ? Especially a new spartan III that hasnt even been born when chief stepped into active duty.
The Spartans of Noble were given higher ranks so that they had more leeway when dealing with other branches.
Although Fred is now a higher rank than John, I believe that John would still have tactical command of him, as he is the de facto leader of all the Spartan-IIs. Also, rank has pretty much disappeared in the Spartan branch anyway.

What’s wrong with Chief not being the top of the hierarchy?
Well if you count Osman you’ll have a Spartan admiral.
And now that I think about, it would’ve been weird if Chief ever met Noble and had to refer to Carter as sir.
Sooooo, let me ask if any other Spartan is/was a Master Chief Petty Officer?

Chief would do so without hesitation, too.
Also, Osman doesn’t count. She was a Spartan Candidate, but she did not actually complete training. Close, but not quite

She is one of the 75 trainees of the Spartan II’s. So I say she counts. She does have the mind of a spartan after all. Cause who says you need armor to be a spartan.

I agree with you in the fact that, she had the training and partial augmentations (if I remember correctly everything except the physiological changes to her skeletal and muscular system). In that sense she is definitely not a run of the mill solider climbing the ONI ladder, however because she refers to herself as someone who usedto be a spartan (I believe when they arrested Halsey in Glasslands), I wouldn’t count her.

So…is Spartan admiral the highest rank as a Spartan?
many people think cheif is higher but he isnt
I think there was a statement from one of the old books about Spartan-IIs having Petty Officer ranks to maximize their battlefield potential. High enough to command troops but not too high that they are removed from the battlefield like a typical officer. Carter being a commander is odd, but he served under the Army, so maybe they had their reasons.
