High price on Xbox market

It’s a shame that Halo 5 is so expensive on Xbox Live market. It costs 70 euros, which I can’t afford. You can get it 15 euros cheaper from a regular store which is really weird considering that you don’t receive any physical case or anything. Isn’t it cheaper to make digital games than physical copies?

The problem is that it seems like I’m not able to purchase the game on launch day. Been playing Halo since Halo 3 and it’s been a great while since I’ve been this excited over a game! Hope you enjoy the launch and obviously the whole game.

If you want, you could join my spartan company because I still need 3 more people to join to get a REQ pack.

I don’t understand this either. It must be cheaper for Microsoft to let people buy games digitally as the cost of shipping games to stores and the store’s cut in selling the game all are expenses also the fact that they have to buy the disk box and the disk itself when selling physical games, so why is it cheaper to buy physical in Europe. £42 in store £45 digital.

Seems like this was the whole point of the post.

Sorry to hear that you wont be able to pick up the game at launch though. Hope to see you soon.

Video games are just more expensive now because of the cost to make them and the rise in inflation and the fact that all companies are money whores now

That is very weird. A lot of stores are running deals for the game though.

There are two downloadable versions in the Xbox Live store. You may be looking at the Digital Deluxe pre-order, which is $90 in the US. I got the normal pre-order edition for $60. Search “halo 5 guardians” with the store’s search bar and it should show you both versions.

You pay for convenience.

hmmmmm

Are you sure that you aren’t looking at the deluxe digital pack? I bought that and it was about that price. The regular game is $59.99 I thought.

I even ordered a physical copy at a national reseller over here for only €50.- It was a sale though, now it’s €60,- again. While most ask for €70,- + it’s being delivered on launch day.

It’s for a few reasons. Stores have bought a certain quantity of boxed copies, and need to ship them to make their money back and begin to profit from them, that’s why they lower their prices, often significantly, to get any edge they can. Microsoft could lower their pricings on the XBL store, but then in store retailers would just drop their prices even more, because otherwise they’d be left with a whole tonne of copies of the game. So both Microsoft and the retailers would make less money if they competed too fiercely at this stage. The way I see it, Microsoft don’t expect the majority of sales to be via the XBL store, but they put it there as a benchmark price, and as a way for people to get the game if they don’t want to go to stores, or await for a physical copy to arrive in the post (more of a factor post launch). Plus, if they generally set quite a high price for it in the store, when they eventually put it on sale, it will seem like more of a bargain.

You may find its actually the opposite. Stores can afford to sell their stock cheaper than a standard price because of where they make their money. In the US and Canada, because of trade in value, places like EB Games and Best Buy can afford to knock 10 dollars off the game price to make sure that you choose them rather than digital.

Sometimes i wonder how the industry would be if MS kept the original xbox policies. I mean, they werent delivered well, but there were some great ideas in there.

£45 for the digital version/ £42 for disk is an absolute bargain based on the amount of entertainment will be getting for this game.

Can spend half that on a trip to dominoes and that only lasts one night (maybe till breakfast too)

dont understand why digital us more, but the difference is so tiny it doesnt really matter

I checked again just to be sure. The Halo 5 pre-order edition is 69.99€ and the digital deluxe one is 98.99€. I can’t believe how it costs that much more in Europe. Normally digital prises are straight “conversions” from US prices like 60$=60€ (excuse me for the possible bad explanation since English isn’t my main language).

I took these prices from Xbox.com and I assume that they are the same on my Xbox One.

Yup, digital is always €10 more expensive than the recommended price for physical copies.

Many stores over here actually sell the Limited Edition for just around €80.
And you can pick up the Standard Edition for €55.

Sometimes you can get new games for even less.
I picked up Dark Souls 2 for just €44 on release day.

It’s Microsoft. The second you step into their realm, it just gets more and more expensive for no reason.
