High CPU usage. My CPU should not be my bottleneck

When I try to play anything my CPU caps out and everything runs very sluggishly. I’m using an overclocked i5-4670k so I don’t know why I’m having these problems.

I have an FX-8370 and I’ve noticed that the game very consistently runs at or near 50% reported CPU usage, so on a 4-core/4-thread CPU, it would very likely be running at or around 90-100%, so “high” CPU usage should be normal in your case?

Although I can only imagine that having your CPU pegged around 100% is causing stuttering/poor performance. In my experience, even dating back to the days of single-core processors, having your CPU pegged at 100% by a single application usually starts to cause some sort of problem, but a 4670K should be more than capable of running Reach, even with four very busy game threads. Are we sure it’s not just stuttering being caused by a completely tapped out CPU?

Just my two cents. Maybe the devs should look into this?

Same problem with a G3258 4,3ghz 16go ram z97pc mate and r9 280x .
Vert slow when the campaign start (~29fps), it slow down to 0-1fps during half minute, work to 60fps during 10 to 20 seconds and here we go again. I was refund by Steam but very dissapointed by 343. I play it on my old One now.
I also try to UP to date everything, put all setting to performance but the problem still here. One More Time the MCC is totally scew up but this Time on PC.

For information i play TR9 ultra 60fps, shadow of the tomb raider high 25-30fps. No reason for the MCC was unplayable on my PC

I am also experiencing bad CPU usage. Mostly I am observing single or dual threaded performance maxing out.

Same issue here, I’ve got an intel i5-6600k 3.50Ghz and GTX 2060super but still find it unplayable. Consistantly +40% CPU usage if not completely maxing out. None of my mates have this issue and they’re running Reach on scuffed laptops.

i7 9700k
very high power usage. whenever i take a step in the game it lags out super hard. any fix???

Typing into the Windows Search Bar “services” and restarting "Windows Management Instrumentation" has helped me, however it didn’t fix my lagspikes.

CPU Usage in Reach from 80-95% down to 50-60% after this simple solution.
Intel i7 4790K
Nvidia GTX 1070

I just tried that my CPU is running at 20% in the menu and does not go above 50% but its my power usage in the task manager. i have a 650w gold rated power supply and my system runs at 380w maxed out. this does not happen to me in any other game other than halo… really upsetting completely unplayable.

I’m having the exact same issue. My cup usage is pegged at 100%. I’m using an AMD 4130. I keep getting really bad stuttering while trying to play. Its pretty much unplayable. It would be nice if the devs took a look into this.

In the case that you have an Nvidia card, update to the latest driver. Then open up Nvidia control panel and set PhysX processor to the GPU (default is auto-select). I was having the same problem with my i7-4790K overclocked to 4.8Ghz and an overclocked GTX 970. So I knew my hardware wasn’t the issue. Even so, I was always capped out at 100% and lagging. But doing this fixed it, now running on average 15-20% CPU usage.

I’ve tried everything to fix this including the suggestions in this post, changing MCC anticheat to 1 cpu only, different Nvidia settings and nothing works. I have an i5-9600KF, GTX 1660 Ti, 32gb RAM and this game started maxing out my CPU after one of their updates. I’m running Windows 10 with latest updates and latest nvidia drivers.

Only thing that works for me is setting the FPS limit to 60FPS in game instead of Unlimited. It’s annoying becuase I get 200-300FPS in this game but it feels so stuttered because of it using 100% CPU. Setting the FPS locked to 60FPS makes the game feel smooth since I only have a 60Hz monitor anyway.

Main reason the game will feel stuttery above 60fps is because the animations of everything, including WASD movements, are locked at 60fps. So at higher frames it gives a what I call, gritty fps feel. It will still be 200fps, but it won’t look or feel like it.
