In the promotional trailers, and specifically concept arts, that show reflections and conflict between Spartan-II Commando John-117 and Spartan-IV ONI Agent Jameson Locke I have tend to notice a possible hidden theme?
During February 2556, Lt. Commander Jameson Locke discovered a Covenant terrorist plot to phlebotomize Human colonists, via a unique 120-esque element, found locally on a rogue shard of Alpha Halo (Installation 04). This lead him, and a small band of soldiers, to attempt to destroy the deposits and capture the smugglers. However, upon landing on the decimated ringworld, the team faced setback after setback, what seemed to be a small arrest turned out to be one of the most daring hardships Locke had to face… betrayal, loyalty, comradary, analog fighting… to which the end result was he escaped the Forerunner Installation with only one other survivor, Talitha Macer. What is curious however is even in the heart of hell and facing certain death, Agent Locke, still requested the original mission be complete… to which the ex-Spartan supersoldier Randall Aiken (Randall-037) detonated the HAVOC-class nuclear warhead.
This has lead me to believe that perhaps, their helmets somewhat describe their overall mission in Halo 5: Gaurdians?
-
Lt. Commander Jameson Locke, ONI Agent and Spartan-IV… no matter the circumstances or overall breadth of the world, Jameson Locke will retain that his mission… his sole purpose… is to hunt the Master Chief. (Sharp Visor = Less Field-of-View… Eyes on the target)
-
Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, Spartan-II… no matter what circumstance come along, John-117 will always rise to face the challenge and win… his sole purpose is to save the galaxy. (Wide Visor = More-Field-Of-View… Eyes on the overall picture)

I’m just going to call what you just said a bit of a stretch
I’m sorry for being a grammar -Yoink!-, but it’s spelled “Guardians”.

Not so outrageous of a theory. It’s not uncommon for art/production designers to incorporate themes and concepts into their designs. And we know 343 did similar stuff with the armors in Halo 4.
Either way OP, that’s pretty deep! Speculation is fun!
I would not be shocked if this kind of thought was the inspiration for the helmet design of Locke.
It’s a bit of a stretch but I guess you could see the artists impressions and a little bit of symbolism and themes present in the overall armor design. One is the hero, the other is the anti-hero.
