So i’m doing this thing where im attempting to collect all the hidden campaigns skulls without any help from youtube just to keep it classy. i spent 4 hours in the first mission and didnt find anything. im going to keep searching. has anyone found/tried to find skulls without help? or am i the only insane spartan here?
I tried and then got annoyed that I missed the first two ones because there is no mission select. I did find 4 on my own in the open world section though.
For the second playthrough, I’m sticking to guides.
Thats pretty impressive ngl. I’d cry tears of joy if I found just 1.
Given the history of skulls, I think you are better off looking up a guide. There were some skulls in H2, H3 and H5 that were just crazy hard to find. Like, I wouldn’t have guessed them not even in a million years, without a guide.
The first one is easiest to fine on the mission. Some players found it quick. If you can’t find it after 4 hours, you best just give up. Because I found it by accident on my second run-through.
I thought the same at first, I found 2, but after that I used guides as no way would I ever of found most of them.
I was gonna go in and hunt blind until I found out you can MISS them and not be able to attempt again until you started a new game or 343 patches a replay mission.
I decided to just screw it and use a guide. I’m not shafting myself for being prideful and not using a guide.
Same.
I got told about one skull, so I knew where to find that.
I found one mission skull (I think it was the penultimate mission where its guarded by a bunch of cloaked elites)… I’ve found a variety of easter eggs, but not the skulls unfortunately. I think I have 4 or 5 in total found (4 of them being from the open world area).
EDIT:
Oh and a tip;
In the open world ones, there appears to be a natural trail of bodies leading up to the skulls - at least for 2 of the 4 open world ones I found.
(I just recalled, I found 5 open world ones, so 3 out of 5 would’ve been with a trail of bodies leading up to them)
Eh, if you’re truly hoping to find all the hidden skulls without any help then good luck. With the game being mostly open-world now and the inclusion of the grapple hook, the developers were pretty dirty with where they hid most of them. It’s not impossible, just improbable. I have no idea how they were found so fast in the first place.
I’ll give you two tips though. First, you can use your scan to highlight them like you would weapons. Just keep in mind that it’ll still be difficult to see as it will be very small and circular allowing it to blend in with the environment. Second, just keep asking yourself “if I were a jerk developer where would I hide my goodies?” Chances are if you do that you will find at least two like I did. There is also a sound indicator when you’re close, but you have to be reeeaaaaalllly close to hear it so it’s not that helpful.
People cheat and open the binaries to obtain the location coordinates of them.
That was how the IWHBYD skull was first found in H3 as that was the only skull to survive launch day because it had a code in order to unlock it, so the binary hack revealed the location, but no one had any ideas on how to actually make it spawn in that location.
I found 2 in the open world naturally, but I used guides for the rest. A couple are a bit involved to get access to.
As far as missing any in the non re playable missions, I would not worry to much about those. While not convenient, you can run the whole game in under 3 hours if you skip the open world side stuff.
I did at least find one skull without any help from external tools or sources and it was the northmost skull guarded by 2 Hunters. Other than that, all other skulls has been found with assistance from YouTube videos.
The last skull you need a guide for. Else a particular door will not unlock for you. In my opinion this is bad game design
I found two in the open world by myself.
The rest I went back to youtube because you can’t replay missions so I had to keep starting from scratch every time. Poor design.
Good luck with your hunt!
I found like one without YouTube. The ones in the missions all I can say is good luck stumbling across them naturally.
That is exactly the thing. Some skulls require you to do a sequence of things that will probably never cross your mind, in order to spawn them.
Thunderstorm in H5 required you to shoot 5 different traffic cones within 2 minutes right after starting Evacuation. Like bruh, how was I even supposed to know that? I could have easily passed hours upon hours checking every square meter of the level, all for nothing. Don’t even get me started on IWHBYD from H2 and H3.
Agreed using guides is just better because like you said some skulls only appear when certain things are done in certain levels. For example, to get the one skull you cant kill any of a certain type of enemy through the entire level if you want it to spawn. Others are hidden where you’d spend hours trying to find em. IWHBYD in halo 3 required you to play the melody of the halo theme with the rings.
Some of the skulls are probably findable without too much trouble if you like exploring. Some of them are probably findable with a lot of patience and attention to detail in how you explore. However, there are a couple skulls that are probably impossible to ever find on your own without a guide.
The last mission, has a hidden skull on it, however you actually dont know it does because it doesnt show up in the mission information and/or description. But you have to do this during the mission to get that unlocked so you can get skull. - trying to be respectful for you on your own
I have been trying to find without help and have managed to find two. One my sensor picked up and one by accident.
