I wonder why 343i added a hidden rank system and record your K/D ratio in “social” playlist.
In Halo 3, even though I died more than getting kills, I still enjoyed the match because it never had a hidden rank system nor a record K/D ratio.
Don’t care for rank, but love me some K/D. I know a load of people complain about it and vocalise their dislike but I love K/D, could care less about W/L as I never play with a team due to none of my friends having this game - K/D at least gives me some constant I can work on in a game.
the hidden rank is dumb but whats worse are the search parameters
I didn’t realize there were hidden ranks until I checked my service record and saw I got a rank for social fiesta.
K/D in H3 social was recorded…it has always been tracked. Nothing new to H5.

yeah it was but the search parameters where way better.
Halo 3 post carnage report the enemy team lvl’s
- plump pirate lvl 29
- xXTurYcaN GSUXx lvl 35
- SF AcE KiLL3r lvl 40
- the lucky elite lvl 10
- roxsore lvl 16
- Xtreme Donut911 lvl 18
now even if you play solo you’ll always be matched against a full team onyx of players once you hit that invisible onyx rank in any social playlist
Yeah, I’ve seen my friend have a platinum 4 or 5 as the best rank he’s had and he never had that. It must’ve been from him grinding fiesta. Which still doesn’t make sense because I didn’t think fiesta had one at all.

I don’t disagree with you…But I wasn’t talking about skill matching parameters. OP specifically said social K/D wasn’t tracked/recorded in H3, when in fact H3 tracked all the same statistics for social as it did for ranked.
Every play list in the history of Halo (excluding MCC in the first few months) has had a rank ladder, even when they’re hidden as they were in Halo 3 social play lists. If you don’t rank players then you cannot match them according to skill and you end up putting champions in the same games with silvers. And if you think you’ve played against some difficult opponents in Halo, I guarantee you that you’ve never played a skill-mismatch as bad as champion vs. silver. Quitting would go through the roof, and if it went on for more than a few days then people would abandon the game altogether. I know that people like to think that there really isn’t all that much difference between the ranks, but there is, and that’s why Halo without skill-based matchmaking (regardless of the play list) would be completely worthless. 343 knows that. Bungie knew that. That’s why it has always been this way.
Where do you find this hidden rank? I’m curious to see what I got. I had no idea.

did you even look at the Halo 3 post carnage report?
I was playing with friends in there high 40’s and 50’s and we where matched against low lvl 10, 16, 18, 29, 35 players back then it was random.
back then you could play with your low lvl buddies, if you do this now you’re -Yoink!-ed because you will get matched against a full onyx team with your invisible onyx rank, and those gold/platinum buddy’s your playing with are gonna get destroyed or just simply ragequit.
but then again what would you know about halo? because you never played or barely played it.
I wish k/d wasn’t recorded on social playlists. I would definitely try to -Yoink!- and cause havoc every chance I get
I think they added it because people were complaining about constantly getting stuck in matches with people they have labeled “try hards”. They probly figured that if they ranked people based on how they performed (and just didn’t show it, to keep a “social feel”), that the system would match them up better - that maybe someone who plays on a gold level might not get thrown in with a bunch of onyx.

I have to ask the same questions. I into my Arena stats and found my K/D for the social games, but not a hidden rank. Where are people finding these?

they didn’t ad -Yoink- they just made extra arena playlists and made the ranking invisble, at the end of the day you are still playing your 10 invisible placement matches witch you can smurf if you want to. a better system would be if they see that you’re playing with 1 onyx 1 plat and 2 golds that they’ll just put you against the same or almost the same skilled players and not a full onyx team. or if you’re playing solo as a onyx that they put 1 onyx, 1 daimond, 1 plat, and 1 gold in each team.
- full onyx teams should only be placed against full onyx teams IMO
