Is this something similar to ‘Hunt the Truth’? Are we going to see this continue?

I don’t know but I feel like every day update from here on out is going to be combed for more of these, I hope there are more! Hearing chief actually talking to Halsey was surreal
I think it’s one of the audio logs we can collect in Campaign, just like it was in Halo 5.

Yeah, because chief’s memory is kinda destroyed and so collecting this audio logs over the missions would make sense and super fun.

I don’t think Chief having a bad memory would make sense. He’s been injured and knocked out numerous times in the past, what’s different here? It’d also be weird that a conversation (which I wonder who recorded) he, Halsey, and a third person could just be chilling in a cave somewhere.
It feels like a clunky way of just explaining what happened between 5 and Infinite.

yea i get the suspicion this clip is before Operation Wolfe which is in shadows of reach novel

Yeah agree with that. The fact it said Halseys Log 01 in the filename though makes me think it will be an in-game audio log.
Disagree about it clunky though. Sure, those of us who know the lore may not need it but for more casual fans they do.

Why not make it a cutscene then? Why possibly hide it and require new people to have to go on a scavenger hunt to understand the context of the story? If it’s important information it should be clear. I mean, I read Shadows of Reach, but that doesn’t mean I’m keep on having to hunt down audio logs on a huge map just to know what happened between 5 and Infinite.

Maybe it is and we just got the audio? Maybe the filename is misdirection? We just don’t know.
If someone wants to know the backstory and lore in the game I think they’ll put the effort in to explore a bit for them and if not they’ll find a guide online. It has to be designed as player agency. We can’t have the huge backstory of the franchise shoved down new players’ throats off the bat: it will make them choke.
Collectible achievements aren’t new in the franchise. If you don’t like them fair enough but plenty of people do and they are an effective way to get you explore the nooks and crannies of the game
Infinite is going to be the entry point of the franchise for so mant new fans
I’ve always wondered if 343 would add hidden audio or other easter eggs in all the previous Halo games in MCC and Halo 5. This could tease stuff from Infinite and also be a 20th anniversary thing as it would be trip through all previous games. Kind of like a throwback that teases the future. It would have to be very subtle of course to not ruin the feel of the original game.

This isn’t deep lore this is what happened right after the last main game in the franchise. I understand this will be the first for some, but you shouldn’t sacrifice telling a logically, consistent story that follows a previous game’s story to tell a whole new one.
Like, this is a major case of telling rather than showing.

When you take into account how Halo 5’s story was received, it’s probably better to do it this way. Also, this isn’t exactly a case of telling rather than showing. There’s little difference between detailing the story between 5 and Infinite through audio logs/terminals or in normal cutscenes. Telling would be if they just gave us a timeline rundown between the games; for example - Chief and Halsey reunite and figure out a plan - as opposed to what we got here, which is “showing” us the interaction, just without visuals.
I think one of the strongest points indicating they’ll be audio logs is the fact that the clip was hyperlinked to the words “stories to be found,” implying we have to find them around the ring like audio logs/terminals of past games.
It’s possible that this scene is the prologue of the campaign or possibly a flashback just without the visual though.

All it amounts to as far as I can tell is if I’ve been invested in the story from the start then I get the honor of finding what’s happened by looking for MP3s in a cave.

Yeah I quite agree. Given what we’ve seen so far I think Infinite will launch you straight into the action and only afterwards will it start backfilling. Chief doesn’t need to be suffering memory loss: but neither he, nor the player, needs to understand the intra galactic strategic situation and recently history for at least the first few levels. Drip feed it like Halo 4’s Halsey journals did

I agree; I see them putting us right in the action of a new story that will be easy to get into for new fans. Then they utilize the audio logs to fill in the story for old fans.
I understand some people being disappointed with this (if it is indeed the way they choose to go), but I’d personally prefer this than the story between 5 & Infinite being only in books; at least this way the story in between is still in the game, just in a different way.
it wasnt a hidden log. It was linked right in the article and was used an an example of something you can find. So, no. I dont think this is some form of marketing or even ARG. Just an example of an in game audio log
That third voice sounded kinda like Lasky to me.
And this is definitely pre-shadows, as they don’t use Cortana’s name because of the dangers.

This makes more sense
How did people find it anyway. I know of the hidden audio I just don’t know how it was found :l
