Hey, you guys who debate properly

I’ve got a favor to ask of those of you who, for the most part, have strong, proper arguments about the different issues on these forums.

Please, PLEASE, PLEASE
stop lumping each other with the folks whose arguments are like soggy tissue paper.
Hear me out, now.

All too often I read somebody saying “omg ders so many hate threds u guys r dum” or “omg ur jus blind 343 fanboiz” (the latter is actually an outdated example from around December-early January, so could one of you guys find a more current one for me?)
Could you guys please stop using the dumbest, weakest individuals as “prime examples”?
It makes you look ignorant (NOTICE HOW I DIDN’T SAY IT MAKES YOU IGNORANT FOR CHRISSAKE), as it gives the impression that you either are too dumb to pick out the decent posts, or that you are intentionally ignoring them to make your argument seem “stronger!”.

I don’t care how many of a particular dummy there are, because their posts usually contribute nothing of value to threads or debates within threads.

I’m asking both “sides”, both “parties”, to disregard the dummies. It is, for lack of better phrase, not fair, to include outliers like that.

Note:
I’m asking you to do this.
I’m not commanding you, I’m not saying you’re a “immature big doodoo head stupid face!” for not doing so, and I certainly don’t believe that I have the authority for either of those things (and I hate, hate, hate ad hominem in this subforum, I hate it! raggle fraggle!)

It would make this place less face-burny to come in and see that you guys are being respectful to each other to some extent (god forbid we be civil)
Pretty please, guys?

oh, and stop generalizing that makes you look incredibly ignorant :expressionless:

Edit: I’m not actually asking “BOTH” parties for this.
I’m asking ALL parties to do this, as this isn’t as simple as black and white.

You forgot this.

> You forgot this.

Actually, thank you. Check that list for fallacies to avoid, folks.
Unless that was directed towards my post, in which case I still thank you in my grinning ignorance.

Eh not really, was more of just something everyone should know if they wish to argue and give constructive feed back. Especially the red herring area.

But they are…

If I were one of the people my thread is addressed to, I would say something that wouldn’t embarrass me.
However, I’m only good at this on occasion, so I’ll do something else until someone else comes up with something, at which point I’ll pat myself on the back/head/both as though something was accomplished.

Agree OP, the problem is a lot of the people who use this forum are young kids.

A few days ago I congratulated someone on refuting my claims through a logical argument. I said he did a good job, then proceeded to refute his claims again.

It’s a rare occurrence to meet someone who can eloquently put their thoughts into words, and even rarer to meet someone who backs up what they say.

And yes, I do believe that the majority of people who can’t formulate arguments are those who support 343 fully, love the game, and generally don’t respond to their own threads after they see a few well-written posts detailing where their original arguments went wrong. Correlation? Probably.

It’s usually just a teensy bit harder to come up with a counter-argument than an argument.
That, and there’s the fact that those threads usually start off without anything solid whatsoever.
The equivalent would probably be “this game sucks” threads.

But you assume I take us all seriously…

Waypoint needs a lot more LOL around here…

That is why I wrap my real responses in sarcasm or such…

Which is why I gave up trying.

When I have tried to make a case in the past I always walked away feeling like, “it’s just a game, get a life already…” and have thus resorted to just making fun of the whole thing…

The really difficult aspect with counter arguments is that people’s egos get in the way and they can’t really read what you wrote, because they are busy reading what they think you wrote.

Thank you for demonstrating exactly what he was saying was wrong with replies…

da hell is this

I want to add a signature to the end of my posts, so I need about 5400 more posts to get that achievement. So you can see why I am posting so many posts here…

> da hell is this

It’s some dummy begging people to be civil.

:expressionless:
Jerk.

Even if you don’t post here, at least read the OP and take it into consideration.
You would be doing everyone here a service.

[/shamefulbump]

Perhaps we need those ignorant people to fend of the lower level noobs.

> Perhaps we need those ignorant people to fend of the lower level noobs.

The “lower level noobs” usually burn themselves up, though.
It’s all good and fun to get at them when they make ignorant posts, but you don’t need to dwell on it for so damn long.
