Hey, so why...

…are playlists cycled in and out of Matchmaking? Why not just keep them there? Especially when it’s a playlist like SWAT or Snipers that are well-established Halo gametypes.

If I had to guess, Id say that 343 is testing to see what players like. Maybe theyre releasing playlists and looking at all the data from them to improve the maps or respawns. Think of it as a BETA test for said playlist. OR… 343 is trolling us.

This for sure, at least thats what it feels like when it comes to the Objectives, what better way to gather info then to have a separate playlist for each. Might as well add what Reach did where realy bad with 24 playlists or what ever it is was just to mutch, to many playlists at the same time and there will most likely be a few with only say 500 players on.
In order for us to have a good matchmaking experiance with Connection and all that there needs to be many players in the playlist for it to work.

I actually think it works better to keep objective population up if they’re in different playlists. Objective has always had terrible numbers, but at least there are a few thousand in each different playlist. Part of that could be that slayer isn’t that great and they give commendations for objectives, but it’s still keeping them alive.

On another note, I’m glad to have so many playlists because of server issues. Every time I try to go play with a group of friends, we see a message like “you have been booted from matchmaking due to networking difficulties, please try again later” or something. We find that, most of the time, we can just switch playlists, but sometimes it says this on nearly all playlists…once the only thing we could play with a group of 5 was regicide. Anyway, it would have really sucked to only have one choice and always be booted from it.

Lastly, I honestly don’t think their voting system is set up to have different gametypes, so they can really only have one per playlist… It could probably be changed, but that could very well be why they have a different playlist for each and every gametype. This could also be the reason we don’t see any variation in gametypes like 1-flag CTF or anything. And if this is actually true, it puts a very big limitation on what they can do in the future with playlists and gametypes…

But why take them away? What’s the point? If thousands of people are playing them, what’s the harm in keeping them up?

Probably for the reasons that there are topics requesting return of certain playlists. People would keep playing them, and ignore populating the underrated playlists. While I would prefer that scenario since it means less people that don’t do what they’re supposed to do in the objective gametypes, 343i probably wants people to populate playlists sparingly and see if it’s any more effective than say Reach’s playlist variety.

I don’t mind them doing it right now, but eventually I might want to try out something new besides play Slayer Pro all the time. I’m sure they are just testing them out for right now. It’s only been about a month.
