Hey guys, my name is Lightrifle...

…and I know when you’re scoped!

…and so does my older brother, the Binary Rifle!

Joking aside, does it seem a little odd that a gun has two different modes of fire based on whether or not you’re looking through its scope? I mean what does it do, sonar your face or something?

Always been an unexplained anomaly since the game’s inception, but not really a glaring issue in my opinion. Just slightly breaks immersion and gives me the occasional chuckle.

Thoughts?

I always assumed they just switched the guns firing mode.
Thats how it is in Battlefield at least

Maybe the button that zooms in also makes the gun 4 shot. Or maybe the Forunners were trolls, and designed it to only be strong when scoped in.

well you see when the weapon realizes you are looking through the scope, millions of little nanobots react and switch firing modes automatically…but seriously I have no idea its cool though. Don’t loot to much into it lol

Considering that all forerunner weapons were designed to combat the Flood, I would assume that, if someone zooms with that weapon (via smart-link for example), the weapon automatically switches the fire mode and focuses the beam so that the LightRifle stays effective on longer ranges against the flood.

Ha agreed it’s just always been one of those unanswered questions for me.

They kinda did. If you read the description, its original purpose was for long range, but the 3 shot burst was added because of the flood.

I’m just giddy about the new firing rate when scoped with the LR, I’ve switched to this on most BTB maps now. I rarely use the DMR anymore as I’ve always used the BR on 4 vs 4 maps for most part (Complex being the only exception and I hate that map and usually quit out anyway).

yea you can toggle between a single shot or burst or automatic. but just for one gun in halo is kinda odd. i like using it on bigger maps.

Exactly. The only time the weapon ever fires in single shots is when it is smart-linked. This works with the Promethean Knights, because, well, they’re robots with human consciences. :stuck_out_tongue: It also works with Spartans.

I’d stick with this.

I just figured that when you activated the zoom on the scope the firing mode would change to the larger and thicker shots both for accuracy reasons and damage. In close the three round burst would be useful against smaller flood forms and the knights could just use their blades on anything bigger.

As for binary, just a laser to help with aim I guess, nothing original.

Spartans don’t actually look down scopes. all weapons are smart linked to their helmets HUD. this is the same reason flinch fits more into cannon than de-scoping.

Maybe it’s not that the firing mode changes when you scope, but that the weapon automatically provides a zoom when you change firing modes.

as people have said before me.

I think it would be pretty cool if you saw some form of animation like the weapon changing it’s structure as the rounds it is firing are changed in one whole shot the a burst.

(most likely burst was for infection forms and single was for long range single targets)

as for the Binary rifle it might have acted like a warning or spotlight to the other knights or intruders. I mean I -Yoink- myself when I see that beam.

Didn’t think about it this way. Interesting.

To be fair, this is the same gun that can magically assemble itself, I think changing firing mode based on how your using it isn’t a hard feat for it
