I’ve been wondering lately, after playing Halo4 for 2 months after its initial release, I began to stop playing it for obvious reasons and decided to start playing BF3 again, but I couldn’t help but to notice something.
The DLC of Halo 4 (or halo in general lately) is just plain stale. See compared to things like BF3 Premium, Halo’s DLC are nothing more but a few more maps (either big or small) for a few extra bucks. In BF3 you feel like you’re the whole package, you get new gamemodes, new weapons (specifically designed for that map pack, like shotguns for close quater, or more tanks for Armored kill), and more gadgets and specializations. The result is a change in gameplay, whether its a dramatic change or minor it’s always welcomed. In Halo, However, if we ever wanted to change the gameplay we had to change up the gametypes, which wasn’t a bad thing but over time, it felt very bland.
Seriously now, how awesome would it be that you weren’t offered 3 generic big team maps, but instead were offered 3 big team maps, with more air vehicles, along with the return of invasion on those maps (complete with the ability to play as elites again), new weapons and more armor abilities specifically designed for those maps. Seriously now 343 needs to up the ante on their DLCs and do something truly mind blowing, something we the fans won’t expect. I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw a trailer for Halo DLC and was truly mind blown, sure you might see some incredibly beautiful maps, but whats the point of playing those maps if the gameplay is atrocious.
Which brings me to my next point, the gameplay. What I would like to see 343 do in the future, is change the way playing on DLC maps should feel. A kind of almost new experience, that still stays true to the halo formula. Lets be honest now, we don’t want to jump into a DLC map expecting same sort of gameplay that we’ve played before; Its just like when jump into a new DLC map hoping for new gameplay, and yet you’re still being cross-maped by the DMR as you would see in Ragnarok.
