I know a lot of people weren’t fond of the Hex walls but I have a theory. As seen in the Discover Hope trailer and the Campaign demo, the ring was damaged. I believe that these Hex walls will only be in this section of the ring. Now unless Infinite is just going to be set on this part of the ring, I think the landscape is going to look similar to what we know and love.
looking at all the concept art i think those are going to be pretty prevalent across the ring lol. but given all the criticism they’ve recieved, they’re definetly getting a facelift.
I think the bulk of the campaign will be set around the broken shards. This will help limit the “open world” options to smaller, loadable sections. But I do agree that the hexes are a part of the reconstruction of the ring. Similar to how the Ark has a moon in its center, the rings may have materials for repairs beneath the surface.

Didn’t think of them as repair tools. I like that idea! I’m just so excited for Infinite haha!
I’m sure there is some type of lore behind these walls, but these are some reasons I think they wanted to include them
- Zeta Halo is partially destroyed. I’m guessing these hex walls are like the “insides” of the ring ripped up out of the ground which is normally not supposed to be there if the ring wasn’t damaged - Seeing as it is releasing on the Xbox One, these hex walls put a lot less stress on the APU of the older consoles. If they instead put rocks, grass, flowers and lots of minor details, that puts more stress on the hardware, especially the older consoles, making the game unstable. In short, hex walls are easier to process then a natural environment.
I know this isn’t a popular opinion but I actually like them and from what we’ve seen I enjoy it and expect there to be a lot of them to make area’s more Identifiable.

Yeah honestly I never had anything against them.

I wasn’t a fan of them in the E3 reveal since it looked like the geometry just didn’t load in, but if they have significantly improved the graphics and it looks like it fits with everything else, I could get behind them. I reserve my judgement until I see more finalized in game images.

I think based on the recent update, that they are just scaling them back quite a bit.
