I’m fairly optimistic on Halo Infinite campaign based on the direction 343 are going, my biggest concern is enemy combat AI at this stage (based on campaign demo).
I appreciate the game was being played on Normal, but for me personally, one thing that made Halo so fun was the enemy encounters. I’m hoping on Heroic and Legendary, enemy ai is more repsonsive and challenging.
I would like to see mid level elites and brutes, exhibit some sort of self preservation, take cover for shields to recharge, evade when grenade is thrown or in our line of sight (H5 and H4 elites just stand in my scope when zooming at them), rush us when our shields are down. Brutes fighting as a pack etc…
Halo CE and Reach were the pinnacle here and would hope for something close to both of those.
I hate to say it, but AI is more controlled by the CPU. Since the Xbox One came out over 7 years, and Halo Infinite will run on it, AI will be confined to this period of technology. It is sad. Almost everyone is obsessed with resolution and FPS. True advancements in gaming is AI and physics.

I mean the game got delayed so the AI wasn’t even fully online yet during the E3 showing. I think the AI will be fine.

This.
At the end of the day, no matter how good we wish the AI to be, it’ll be limited by 7 year old hardware that was already outdated when it came out in 2013.

AI has never been a focus for 343i. I remember some dev once even claiming that good AI doesn’t sell anymore, so it doesn’t make sense to invest into it. So if that mentality still prevails in the industry - and based on the modern scene as well as the reveal it does sadly, AI routines seemed extremely rudimentary in Hi - I doubt we’ll see H2 Elites/Marines, HCE Jackals, ODST Grunts or HR classes/unit interactions ever again!

The X360 era had better AI routines in games overall, not just in Halo. Xone had a better CPU to boost back in the day as well and we still saw a decline in this regard! It’s a matter of investment more than anything imho, especially in a FPS. The technical limitation exist of course, but I would be more afraid of numbers on screen than actual routine complexity and timers in the coding.
Not to mention AI is scalable too. If there really was a limitation - and most probably there isn’t one in first place - 343i could just limit the number of AI on screen on the Xone version of the game or pull of a HR Firefight where Bungie reduced routine variations and action numbers. Good AI in Halo is possible, the hardware excuse is nonsense!

I hope you’re right. I want the next gen versions to shine in ways current gen can’t. Not just in graphics and frame rate, but also in AI and other features.

Wait, the AI wasn’t fully ‘online?’ All they’re doing in the last year is ‘polishing up the game,’ or so I’ve heard. I suppose some bugfixes related to AI could be in there, but a large scale improvement over what we saw? I personally doubt that (unless you can provide me a source).
AI and vehicle combat scenarios are the two places where 343i are still lagging behind Bungie-era Halo campaigns. Halo 5 was a decent jump in comparison to Halo 4, so I’m hoping Infinite continues the trend. The demo presented a very limited set of scenarios, so I wouldn’t use it as a means of measuring the AI. Having Brutes throw suicide Grunts at you is going to be fun though. Imagine a Brute pack having a nearby squad of Grunts and just chucking all of them in you direction.

If some basic lighting wasn’t online I highly doubt the AI was fully finished. We saw a small slice of an area as well. I am speculating of course however there is no source showing it was fully online either so it doesn’t matter in the end.

It’s important to remember the game was not finished at the time of the gameplay reveal and everything seen is subject to change. But same

as much as I don’t want to commit my faith in 343 pulling something truly spectacular with Infinite, I will say that I think all areas will be crucially looked over for this particular game more than any other time including Halo4 I would personally say. There’s a huge amount riding of Halo Infinite being absolutely spot on and they need every aspect to shine. I think they wont be so misplaced with what they have this time because they know for many fans this might be their last chance. This can often be the best scenarios to be in regarding greatness emerging. We shall see of course and anyway until I’m both happy with the product and how I can also play campaign entirely offline, I wont be purchasing, but I rather suspect MS will be pushing rather hard so this is knocked out of the park. If not then MS deserves all the flak it gets
I do recall in Halo 4 the AI had advanced a little in that on occasions Sword Elites would advance you seemingly randomly and it felt good not to anticipate this. Likely just a scripted moment when enemies dwindled but I liked what 343 did at these points
