Here's probably why Infection isn't in the game yet

Files for Infection medals were recently found in Infinite, so it’s likely the mode exists or was in development. Why isn’t it in the game? Here’s the reality. Every map is really only good for maybe 1 or 2 modes, and are borderline incompatible with others. Some might pass with Infection, but only in specific defendable areas.

Some examples

Aquarius:
Good for CTF and Slayer
Could maybe pass for Oddball
Probably awful for Strongholds and Infection

Live Fire:
Good for Slayer and Strongholds
Works alright for Oddball
Probably awful for CTF
Might pass for Infection

Recharge:
Good for Slayer and Strongholds
Mostly fine for Oddball
Probably awful for CTF
Actually passable for Infection in some parts of the map

Streets:
Good for Slayer, Strongholds, and Oddball
Probably great for Infection
Not good for CTF

Bazaar:
Good for CTF and Slayer
Might be alright for Oddball and Strongholds
Would probably be awful for Infection if everyone defends from one flag area

Launch Site:
Only good for One Flag
Passable for Slayer
Likely awful for Strongholds and unplayable for Two Flag CTF
The back room on the man cannon side would always be the camping room for Oddball and Infection and would suck

Behemoth:
Decent for CTF and Slayer
Way too open for Strongholds, Oddball, and Infection
It’s just not as good as Sandtrap was

The maps just are not properly designed to accommodate all game modes and future game modes, similarly to how BTB maps are too claustrophobic and poorly designed for driving vehicles. If we get Infection, I hope it comes with 2 new maps designed for Infection.

Also there’s the whole Bulldog/Sidekick thing, and Swords not having no clash damage and melee stun blocking.

I think it’s a much more simple problem than map design, the game was obviously built with competitive in mind & so certain social mechanics were pushed aside to compensate for that

one example is the Bulldog replacing the traditional functionality of a Halo shotgun, unless a modified variant is used for the mode, the Bulldog is incompatible with the traditional Infection mode, so I would assume when it returns it’ll be different from what we are used to, for better or worse

just a side-note here but I really wish Infinite was more accommodating for a casual experience.

I was thinking it was due to lack of forge, since infection maps are just default maps that are spiced up in forge.

Infection used normal maps in Reach and 5 iirc. I know Halo 4 had Forge maps for a ton of game modes, but that was just how 4 was in general. 4 also had that whole “no jumping” Infection survival thing going on. I did think the concept of Flood Infection was cool though. A Flood survival Firefight mode with Flood Infection and Marine Infection added in Infinite would be great.
