First of all, if Halo was really only about 4v4, you wouldn’t have so many people complaining about how much vehicles suck or that the Falcon/Hornet was removed.
OT, it sounds great. But we’d wind up with repeats of Hemorrhage. The DMR just ruins every medium to large sized maps, including (most likely, I certainly haven’t played them but it makes sense) Battle Creek, Lockout, The Pit, Damnation, Ascension, Prisoner, Ivory Tower, Narrows, Zanzibar, Hang em’ High, etc. Their sight lines are too long for anything with the DMR to be any fun.
And I’m not necessarily hating on the DMR (although it is a huge problem), it’s just that the graphics and rendering distances have gotten to the point where distance doesn’t mean what it used to. Look at Hemorrhage; you can snipe far easier than you could on Blood Gulch. Why? It’s easier to see. You wouldn’t dream of sniping standing on the top of the enemy base without moving at least part way across the canyon in Halo CE.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love some great remakes (namely Sandtrap :D). But I think 343 could be just as successful if they got back to what made the originals so much fun. For example, They weren’t cluttered. Drive on any map in a Warthog in Halo 4, and it’s going to flip or hit some obstacle (or both). Take, say, Sandtrap (:D) which had absolutely no obstacles in the outer ring (and center ravine thing) but plenty of cover for infantry within the center of the map (or if you don’t like BTB, how about High Ground? You’ve got rocks going down to the beach, yes, but a wide (key word: wide) trail is left around the entire map, allowing flexibility in your driving routes). Compare that with Vortex (or Meltdown or Exile or Boneyard or Spire). It’s a nightmare to drive on. Your path is basically forced on you, giving the enemy every advantage (as if they didn’t already have DMRs and Plasma Pistols) because they know exactly where you’re going to go. Chances are, the driver is trying to so hard to not hit anything and flip that he can’t focus on giving his gunner good sightlines.
Unfortunately, Halo 4 doesn’t really have any smaller equivalents to High Ground or Zanzibar (just BTB and 4v4 no vehicles–Complex is pretty darn big), so you may not agree with my assessment. But it sure seems like the maps are far more cluttered.
