Here What's Wrong With Halo 5

I used to play Halo 2 and the biggest problem with that game was Matchmaking. Since the game didn’t really match equal players together people would just buy a new gamer card once a month to start off as a beginning player. Whatever. One game I did play that was fun was a game with max shields and everyone had a pistol. That was fun because it took longer to kill someone and you fought longer. That’s what makes the game exciting because accidents happen more often when there’s more chaos and the game is not so much about being the first one to find an enemy. With low shields the game just becomes who finds who first. That’s why I never liked Swat or no shields.

When Halo 3 came out Matching didn’t get changed and you died SOONER because the shields were lower.

So I install Halo 5 on my PC just to see if anything has changed. It’s a little bit better than Halo 3 with the default shields. It looks like they tried to change Matchmaking so in forge it’s Custom Game and Customs Browser. However, here’s where it still fails. Every game it’s just a bunch of Level 1 players and a couple people at Level 142. That’s absurd. It ruins the game when you have one or two guys that are better than everyone else. The Matchmaking is still not working.

So here’s what I did. I started my own game with max shields, max health, lowered the weapon damage and increased melee damage. Guess what? The game became fun again. Each fight lasted longer and you had time to even the playing field (I don’t think most players know you can change all kinds of options in the game). The good players were more susceptible to making mistakes and average players had a better chance at winning games. The game was no longer just about finding someone first. It was about actually aiming your weapon, fighting it out and getting away from a fight. You don’t die so easily as if you’re playing swat. That’s what Halo 3 seemed like to me. The shields were so low every game seemed like you were just playing with no shields. That’s why Halo 2 was funner than Halo 3, 4 or 5. Because there was more actual fighting and people didn’t die easily. Also fix the Matchmaking. There should be no games with a level 142 playing with a bunch of Level 1 players. How you can’t seem to fix that is beyond me.

> The Matchmaking is still not working.

Uh… that’s because it’s not matchmaking. If you’re playing on Halo 5: Forge, you don’t have access to Halo 5 proper. You get the Customs Browser and nothing more.

Additionally, I fail to see how level has anything to do with ability. You could potentially be at SR 146 and play like absolute trash (like myself) or you could be at SR 12 and play to the point where it looks like you’re cheating. All that Halo 5’s level tells you is how much of your life has been wasted in a video game.

Lol have you played any of the halo games for longer than 2 hours? Halo 3 took the longest to kill someone followed by Halo 2 and now in Halo 5 people die the fastest. Not to mention you played nothing but customs maps and gametypes the whole time yet think youre the only one who knows how to change a couple of player traits. People have been doing way more then that in forge and custom games for nearly a decade.

Its the players own fault that matchmaking is broken by using smurfs and deranking them to boost friends.
The system would match people perfect if everyone had one legit account but i know people have 5 maybe even more smurfs and use them to boost. we cant blame 343 for people ruining matchmaking.

Saaaame, currently at 150 and I be choking the easiest shots of my life :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

The reason you see players at high levels OP is that they have ranked up on the proper version of Halo 5 on the xbox lol. When I went over to Halo 5 forge, I played nothing but level ones, they must have thought I was a god or something.

That’s because you’re not matchmaking with anyone. You’re joining a Custom Game alongside people who also joined that specific Custom Game. It’s no different than joining a Minecraft server or something.

Life is hard when you don’t read the fine print… or the large description on the game that states that what you are playing does not include matchmaking and was designed to create maps and test them.

Most people are playing Halo 5 on PC because they love the game and don’t want to buy an XBOX. They’re not going to care or notice that it’s “designed to create maps and test them”. I would fully BUY a copy of Halo 5 if I could play it on PC whether or not they ever fix Matchmaking or clear out all the players that create new accounts once a month.

My experience with the extra settings is no one uses them very often. It’s only in the silly maps people create. Also (in general) the game has always been too easy to kill and too easy to die because the default settings on the shields are too low. It just turns into a game like Where’s Waldo. It’s people who are good finding someone else first in the map who have the advantage. With better shields there’s more fighting, aiming, getting away and switching weapons in a game.

Actually, of you think about it, the game itself is all about men inside a futuristic suit of armor. So it’s a bit absurd that their shields don’t work very well. And did they use a cheaper material for the helmet since it’s easier to kill someone with a headshot? I’d fire that guy that designed the helmet.

That’s what you get when most standard-issue firearms use some kind of semi-armor-piercing or armor-piercing round.

If you don’t believe me, look:

  • MA5D/MA5-series Assault Rifle: 7.62x51mm full metal jacket armor-piercing - M392/M395 Designated Marksman Rifle: 7.62x51mm full metal jacket armor-piercing - M6H2/M6-series Magnum: 12.7x40mm semi-armor-piercing high explosive - BR55/BR55HB/BR85N/BR85HB Battle Rifle: 9.5x40mm high-powered semi-armor-piercing

It’s still funny because in the future they should have way better armor.

Not really. What happens after you develop better armor?

You develop better stuff to break that armor.

Ignoring the comments about you playing only custom games and not actually matchmaking…
I’ve always found Halo 5’s multiplayer to be extremely fast paced. I’m not sure if that’s because everything seems to move at a quicker pace (with default sprint, spartan charge, thruster pack, whatever) or what. I don’t mind it, but that’s how it feels to me.
I have always wondered how slowing the game down (whether through movement, jump height, time-to-kill, or something else) would affect things. It’s interesting to hear one person’s experience with it was a positive one.

You keep saying that they need to fix matchmaking, Halo 5 Forge isn’t designed to have matchmaking. Halo 5: Forge is just that, Forge and Custom Games.

You never matchmake with other players on Custom Games, you choose who to join and you join them. The Custom Browser is a giant list of people to join.

The time to kill for weapons in Halo 5 is just barely faster than the time to kill for standard weapons in Halo 2.

You can’t fix the matchmaking when there literally is no matchmaking. On the PC it’s only custom games. Also you said everybody plays halo on pc yet halo on the pc is pretty dead. Most people only go on the pc to make a map and test it a couple times.

I totally get the fact that it’s not real matchmaking. So we don’t need to go over that again. I’m not talking how the game IS I’m talking about how the game should be.

Look, here’s the bottom line. If the company wants more people to buy the game or buy an XBOX they should make it funner for average people to play. I’m not even an average player. I would say I’m above average. I played Halo 2 almost the entire time it was out and I played almost every day. I got to the point where I could win two or three Rumble Pit games a day.

You can tell a lot of people play for a while and then quit because you always see a bunch of 1 Level players and a few 45 to 140 Level players playing the game. You rarely see any 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 Level players. It’s because people get killed too quick and they’re always playing against way better players so they give up. This has been true whether or not they’re playing the Customs Browser on a PC and it’s not real Matchmaking (like most people would even know that?) or when you’re playing REAL Matchmaking. Even real Matchmaking isn’t really Matchmaking because you can always use a new account.

The default setting on the time and shots it takes to kill someone should be higher too. It just makes for a funner game. If you want to play Swat you can always play Swat but the shields are so low just on a regular game itself it’s like you’re always playing Swat.

Are you really trying to compare customs to the actual game? You do realize that H5 on PC is extremely limited as not many bought it as it’s primarily and strictly for forgers. Also the XP level that you speak of reflect zero skill. All XP is is a general measurement of how long some one played. Sure generally some one with more XP is usually better than some one with less but that isn’t the case. You may want to actually play H5 multiplayer on Xbox one before casting judgement.

> Look, here’s the bottom line. If the company wants more people to buy the game or buy an XBOX they should make it funner for average people to play.

They have made Halo 5 fun for the average person to play.

Maybe a lot stop playing FORGE because it’s not the real thing. And customs is not matchmaking you get paired with all different skill sets. Also have you considered that some PC players might be using an xbox controller?

> Even real Matchmaking isn’t really Matchmaking because you can always use a new account.

Yes bring smurfing into the argument, that will help. With smurfing people eventually rank up and join the same bunch of people. We’re talking about Forge not the full version of the game.

> The default setting on the time and shots it takes to kill someone should be higher too. It just makes for a funner game. If you want to play Swat you can always play Swat but the shields are so low just on a regular game itself it’s like you’re always playing Swat.

Does it really make for a funner game? I have no idea what your last line even means. SWAT is perfectly fine.

That is hardly what’s wrong with Halo 5: Guardians. At least in my opinion.

I’m more concerned with cross-mapping, farming, lack of customization, lack of variety in game modes (this is a BIG one), bland art, ridiculous dependency on Spartan Abilities, overpowered Spartan Charge, map design, vehicle physics, lack of splitscreen, and the game’s general dependency on online servers.

What does this have to do with Halo 5: Forge then? Halo 5 on Xbox has a lot more than that.

  • It’s because they can’t gain XP and therefore they can’t rank up on Halo 5: Forge. Therefore new accounts that only play on PC would forever be level 1 and those who’ve played a lot on Halo 5 before coming to Forge would already be much higher. There’s a small amount of people who’ve played Halo 5 for a very short amount of time before moving to Halo 5: Forge and limit themselves.2. It’s not hard to get to level 10. A couple of Firefight matches and you’re already level 5.

@bold: Considering that you’re joining an existing server with an already defined set of players and therefore are not searching for players based on any time of parameters. Or the fact that Halo’s real multiplayer is usually called Matchmaking, yes, most people would know that.

That sounds more like Microsoft’s problem, because that problem extends to every game.

Yet you haven’t answered the part where I said that it’s just barely faster than Halo 2.

The TTK for Halo 5 is not that far off from Halo 2’s TTK. H2’s BR is 1.6 and H2’s Carbine is 1.4, Halo 5’s BR, DMR, and Magnum sit at roughly 1.3

Pull out Dual Wielding combos in Halo 2 and you could have sub 1 second TTKs
