For some reason, I have a lot of trouble using the sniper rifle in Halo 5. I try to practice with it as much as I can, and I can tell that I’ve gotten at least a little better with my no scopes, but I feel like I miss four shots for every time I actually hit the player. Do you guys have any tips on how to practice or what to do? Right now, I’m afraid to pick up the sniper in arena matches for fear of wasting all 12 bullets on one kill and losing the game for us. Please reply with tips
Just play alot and youll get better if not then oh well theres other weapons
Good advice I can give is go into custom games with a friend and practice your sniping and snapshots in the Octagon.
There are several ways to improve :
• Simply use it more
• Be patient
• On the other hand, Don’t be too patient, take risks (with shots I mean)
•There is something called a “Whip” effect, where you basically “drag” the scope to any side when the player is moving (this mostly works when no-scoping)
• I’ve found that it is easier to no scope when you are in the air (i.e jumping) (be careful though you are an easy target if you hover)
• Practice in CG on an octagon map or similar
• Communicate with your team, when you have snipe stay behind them but not to far, this will make the enemy (sometimes) engage your team instead of you, giving you the “peace” to line up shots (good Idea to assist your team before they die)
• Also know the map, where will the enemy spawn ? If you have teammates at one location they will (usually) not spawn there.
• Again know the map, but this time with positions you can get in ----> Staying in the right spots with the best sight-lines, like on “Nest” on Plaza.
In forge build yourself a Cannon man that launches cones randomly so you can get used to tracking your shots.

I think you miss because you try to aim at the enemy. Just fire towards the enemy, and the OP aim assist will do the rest.
As for Arena, I’m not really good with a sniper, but sometimes I pick the sniper (if no teammate is near) and I fire to a wall, just so the other team can’t use the sniper if they kill me…
- Find a place where you are less likely to be jumped (e.g. Red spawn in Pegasus) - Surround yourself with your teammates - Be aware of when your teammates are engaging (best done by looking at their nametags) since the enemy will be distracted and is easier to snipe - Go for no-scopes when the enemy has half shields (as you will kill him even with a body shot) - Know the angles in a map where enemies will peak and focus your scope on them regularly - For the no-scope while in a fight I found that the best way is to jerk the aim stick and shoot when the aim reaches the enemy - You don’t have to use the sniper all the time when it is with youThese are what I could think of off the top of my head. Your skill will improve the more you use the sniper correctly, so keep using it when you’re not likely to lose your team the game.
Im so bad with snipes at close-medium range. Long range im a -Yoinking!- god lol
One I have to most trouble with is the Binary rifle. Made worse by the fact that getting one in a req pack is really rare, so it slows down that commendation progress. It’s also a far different beast than the sniper or beam rifles.

The binary rifle is probably the easiest one to use… literally just aim over a target and fire.
With no-scopes in particular, whip your aimer from left to right (or vice versa) across your enemy. With the bullet magnetism mechanics in the game, this will GREATLY help your no-scopes. Thats one reason why I actually have found it easier to hit no-scopes on 10 sensitivity than what i usually play on, which is 4. I don’t suggest 10 sensitivity though, it makes your pistol/BR/everything else horrible
The trick is to slowly aim your cross hairs at the enemy’s head and move with him.
I’d say make sure to fix any lag issues, be it from your console, router or screen.
I was having issues after moving into my new place and using a screen that I hadn’t set up yet. I felt as if I got worse at Halo (honestly I probably did). I set up the latency on my screen and put my router on different settings and saw a performance boost.
Not saying this is what you are experiencing, but if you haven’t looked into it yet, you might be surprised at how many more shots you will land.
Thank you all for all the tips you gave me. I will make sure to try all of them out, especially just dragging the aimer across the spartan I’m trying to hit. I have tried max sens with the dragging thing, but as you said, ADeliciousMango, it makes everything else horrible lol. I guess I’ll practice more in BTB and pick the sniper up in arena when we have a respectable lead.
Octagon dude. Is the only way to get better. Also try to predict where the opponent will be by learning spawns is easier if you see them first.
