Help us save Competitive Halo!

Seeing how Halo:Reach has seemed to of forgotten the competitive spirit of Halo; I would like to hear everyone’s thoughts on what steps we should take gain back Halo’s equilibrium between (Casual) Social, and (Competitive) Ranked playlists, and game play.

Here are the differences in the Social, and Ranked play lists in Halo: Reach vs. Halo 3. I hope you can see the differences.

Halo Reach is comprised of 1 ACTIVE Ranked playlist, and 1 other competitive playlist:

  1. Arena
  2. Doubles Arena
  3. FFA Arena
  4. MLG (Has no actual Ranking System)

Halo Reach is comprised of 30 Social playlists which include, but are not limited to:

  1. Action Sack
  2. Grif ball
  3. Living Dead
  4. Team Slayer
  5. Team Objective
  6. Team Swat
  7. Team Snipers
  8. Team Classic
  9. Noble Map Pack
  10. Defiant Map Pack
  11. Squad Slayer
  12. Super Slayer
  13. Squad DLC
  14. Double Team
  15. Big Team Battle
  16. BTB ALL Stars
  17. Bungie Day
  18. Rumble Pit
  19. Ann. Classic
  20. Ann. Squad
  21. Ann. BTB
  22. Ann. Firefight
  23. FF Arcade
  24. FF Doubles
  25. Score Attack
  26. Invasion
  27. Multi team
  28. TU Beta
  29. Premium Battle
  30. Co-Op Campaign

Halo 3 altogether had 22 Ranked playlists on and off which include:

My thoughts personally:

I do not know if any of you noticed in this thread, but the competitive community kind of got screwed in Halo: Reach. and I think it only fair that 343 address this issue.

Halo 4 needs at least these 7 Ranked playlists: Lone Wolves, Team Slayer, Team Doubles, Team Objective, Team Swat, Team Snipers, and MLG (MLG settings to be decided by Major League Gaming and it’s community).

Also these playlists should pertain to the classic competitive environment consisting of: No Bloom, No direct impact in gameplay do to your Armor besides it cosmetic features, Same starting Load Outs for all players, and maintaining fairness/balance for everyone in game to increase competitiveness, and decrease randomness .

So if you all would give your opinions on what competitive halo needs please feel free to help the cause.

Half ranked half social. Done.

Just give MLG a ranking system and call it a day. Competitive default settings died with Halo 2.

I really do think that as long as 343 makes a healthy balance of competitive and casual playlists, everyone will get over the anxiety they are feeling about Hallo 4’s multiplayer, and be happy with the game. I mean, you can make arguments all you want about original trilogy gameplay vs Reach gameplay, but what it all comes down to is that Reach was just WAY too geared toward casual gaming, and on top of that, the random matchups further demolished any remaining trace of competitive play that might have survived. I’m sure 343 recognizes this and will work hard to find a suitable balance of playlists.

anyway i do agree there should be more ranked play list. or perhaps a server browser.

Yeah good points. As long as there are some competitive playlists and party matching systems it won’t be too bad. I would like to see more than just 1 or 2 ranked or competitive playlists like you mentioned in the OP. If there isn’t though, I would like the bare minimum of party matching in any playlist, and competitive type starts with AA’s only on map, BR or DMR start etc.

I agree, but we have to create an amount of leniency in order to find games as far as party match making goes other wise it could be worse than trying to find games in Arena.

Also I just want those 7 play lists at the very least.

In halo Reach at the moment there’s only 1 Ranked playlist Arena
In halo 3 - a game that’s slowly losing its population its has 6 atm .

A 3/4 year old game has a better Ranking system and more Ranked Playlist then a game that’s be out for maybe half as long…

I am all for AA’s if they are stationed around each map like how equipment used to be, if we all have perks and built in armor abilities off start then yeah Halo 4 will be worse than Reach.

Halo has always been a game where everyone started equal. To gain an advantage over your team you needed to push up and out of you rbase and control certain parts of the map.

If everyone starts equal it reduces the randomness that we have had to grow accustomed to in Reach.

We need to maintain the balance of Ranked, and Social Playlists. The equilibrium involved between Casual gaming, and Competitive gaming.

Additionally, I would like to see at least the ranked playlist record games won/lost per playlist. This would promote competitive play particularly in objective lists.
