I’m trying to improve my Concussion Rifle Commendation and am currently playing a lot of BTB using the Ordnance Priority and Ornance Reroll abilities. I’m mananging to get a Concussion Rifle every few games because of this, however, I cannot seem to get any kills with the damn thing!
I would be grateful for any tips, thanks in advance.
How is it awful?
It freezes opponents in their place, AND it’s a three shot kill!
Anywho, here’s a small list of protips:
Practice adjusting into the time it takes to actually hit the target
Only go into 1v1’s with it
It’s just like a rocket launcher, try to get the height advantage
Try pecking at enemies with it, i.e. slide in and out of cover while firing it; since it’s not a hitscan weapon you don’t want to be left open while you aren’t firing or doing any damage.
It’s not a great weapon, but it sure is fun once you get used to it.
I’m also using this quite a bit (I want a new stance and Standoff is the one I’ve chosen) and it is actually reasonably good, you just have to get used to it.
First, it’s a 3 hit kill if it hits them directly. You want to be hitting them directly… AOE is crap and its reticule/general feel lends itself quite well to direct hits.
Secondly, you won’t beat someone who hits you with a melee as their last move, so it needs to be within AR-ish range to land hits but not so close that they can fire and melee before you can land and register three hits.
Hmm.
You don’t want to take on two people at once, though taking two really quickly is possible if you can get a reload in for safety’s sake.
Think of it as a Scattershot with more travel time, so you use it backpedaling against rushers OR against a BR/DMR user caught out in CQC. If you get a shot on someone before they really do much to retaliate, you can almost certainly finish them off. Because the AOE and travel time aren’t amazing, treat it like a Gauss or Scorpion shot: you don’t just go blazing away with them, because they’re valuable and not something you want to miss with. Work on your aiming and landing those three shots, even if it means you take shots very slightly slower than possible.
I’ve found it works remarkably well in the central tower in Exile, along with the other emplacements. The long ramps straight up to you really do amplify the Concussion Rifle’s strengths.
I like to go into closed-in areas and get the jump on people by using Hologram. By the time they realize the Hologram was a decoy, it’s way too late for them. >:]
Another thing you can do is try it on normal Infinity Slayer (4v4). The Concussion Rifle is unstoppable on Adrift. By far my favorite weapon in Halo 4.
