Help -- Strongholds Don't Show Up in Game

I’ve read every tutorial I can find, but whatever I do, I cannot get stronghold zones to show up in game. The plates show up, just not the zones. I have even created prefabs of stronghold zones/plates from 343 maps and imported them into mine. Still doesn’t work.

KOTH zones work just fine.

Is this a known issue?

Here’s a link to the map if anyone has the time to take a look. This is driving me crazy.

Not sure about your map in particular, but I can tell you that both Strongholds AND KOTH do not require capture plates; only zones.

Make sure they are LABELED “Include Strongholds” and “Strongholds Zone”, make sure the bottom of the zone is touching the ground where the players will be, make sure your Custom Game is “Strongholds”, and I see no reason why it won’t work.

Interesting about not needing the plates, but yeah, I’ve checked all those boxes. Still nothing. It’s super weird.

A guy on you unknown emerald has brill videos up for the basic modes, has made my map playable, watch his vidz

Yeah, the Plates literally only serve as hologram projectors to display your little AI bobbing around showing that the zone is yours.
But the in-game dialogue an color coded zone boundary are more than enough to make it clear…and those Capture Plates eat up a surprising chunk of FX Budget…for no otherwise justifiable reason.

Thanks, yeah, I’ve watched his tutorial.

An update: I just loaded into a fresh canvas, saved it, played a game of strongholds on it to check that they worked, copied the zones into my map, and… they still don’t work. There is clearly something about my map that is causing them to not work, but I have no idea what it could be. :man_shrugging: Thanks for the replies and suggestions, though.

I am having the same issue. At some point strongholds stopped working on my map as well. KOTH works fine. @Omnomnomni let me know if you were able to figure this out. My understanding is that the plates are required, according to the zone and plate descriptions. If plates affect the FX budget could they stop working if the map is over budget?

How is your FX Budget?

If it is drastically too high, some FX may not show up in game…
(“FX” objects include many objects that are not in the FX category, including ALL weapons, ALL Grav-Lifts/Launchers, and ALL GAME MODE OBJECTS, including Capture Plates and Zones.

If you are overloaded in the FX category, they just may not be spawning in correctly.

Good suggestion – looking into it now. I know I’m around 500%, but 343 Forge maps seem to be in that area, too. Will do some testing. Thanks!

That did it! Thank you!!

Hmm, spoke too soon. I duplicated my map to run the tests, and that worked. But for some reason in the original map, it still doesn’t work, even after deleting enough objects to get below 100% FX. I still think it has something to do with the FX budget, but there must be a specific cause that I’m missing.

I ended up un-publishing the main file and replaced it with my duplicate, so problem solved. Here’s the rough steps I went through that got things to work on that version of the file, in case anyone else runs into this issue.

I deleted every light, emissive element, and many weapon spawns from my map, then added the Strongholds points and tested them. Once they worked, I added the lights, etc. back into the map. Now everything works as intended. My only guess is that the engine prioritizes loading FX elements based on the order they were added into the map, and you need to add your SH zones before you hit some kind of hidden FX limit to ensure they load. (Or just don’t delete the default ones from the canvas in the first place, d’oh.)

@Omnomnomni to clarify you had to create a copy of your map?

Disable copy protection
Copy the map

Unpublish the map with the issue

Fix the issue in the new map as described
Publish the new map

This would result in a new map resetting the bookmark and play stats. But resolve the blocking issue.

Hey, yes, this is what I did and it… worked for a while. Unfortunately, Strongholds have broken again, even with keeping my FX budget below where it was before, when it worked. But you know? I stopped caring. The map doesn’t play that great for 'holds, anyway.

Word. Not my only map with some sort of issue, lol.

Have fun forging.

Yeah, I have to imagine it’s a more common issue, but weird that I haven’t seen much talk of it.
