Please help me. I have spent hours creating a forge map, someone joined a session the other night and saved it. They haven’t done any work on it and it’s showing in their files that they’re the map auther. It’s not even finished yet and I don’t want someone else taking credit for my hours of work. What can I do?
Not really anything, but one thing I would do is record your progress as you build the map, by occasionally posting on youtube, updates for it. Other than that I got nothing. What I do is post the start of my forge maps on youtube so I can always refer to it in case my map is stolen, you should also appear offline and make your lobby invite only to prevent people from joining and saving the map.
Thank you
From what I’ve read I think there should be better protection for map owners when the new update drops. I’m sure Tom French had commented / tweeter about re-adding the original author field. Map privacy / hiding from search results also seem to heading into the browser too.
Happened to me before and the guy accused me of stealing and he used 20 of his youtube channels to spam me. What I personally do is record and screenshot the process even. I add an Easter egg on all my maps, a little hidden signature. I also use code names for maps in progress i.e proj0001.
I would also advise saving different versions of your map. In the sense of making new saves each time as you progress, just name it differently each time. Such as, Race Rally, Race Rally Edit 1, etc. By doing so you can keep track of your own progress on the map, go back to previous saves if needed, and if the map is taken wrongly. You have all these different versions to prove your progress, and you can keep moving on with your map building as well.

I do the same thing minus recording and screenshots. To the OP, I would also recommend using an alternate Xbox Live gamertag, ideally one with zero friends and followers, to Forge on so your maps won’t be bookmarked and/or stolen.
I think the map is ready now. How do I get it noticed!? Lol

What kind of map is it? As you’re going to want to find a way to get it tested.
But other than that, if it’s all good and ready to go then you submit it to a youtuber to post and share. By the way, what is the name of your map?
I always create multiple saves (to make sure people don’t steal it and to have backups in case my current save breaks). I also give it a short code name so it’s not obvious what it is. Also, if you haven’t finished the map yet it shouldn’t be a big problem. If they steal it and try to finish it that most likely means they stole it because they can’t do what you can. Part of their map would be crappy while you have a much better, complete version
A lot of people also bookmark my incomplete maps, and I never really care because it’s not complete. Most of the time they are just curious about what you are making. I take it as a complement

Good points. Like he said, just keep an older copy around so if the issue ever comes up you have the time stamp (creation date) proving where it came from first.
Try hiding a little easter egg that only you know about in the map and maybe even make it a regular thing across all your maps. Kind of like a ‘stamp’ that shows the community that this is your map, not the other dude who’s claiming it is yet can’t explain why there’s a grunt plush hiding in the wall or why this particular crate is upside down and painted purple.
