I can’t seem to find a post about this that answers anything. All the ones I found are just people complaining and saying why it’s stupid. I agree that it is stupid and resetting ranks in any game is just absolutely mindbogglingly idiotic. That being said, I at least want to know why game developers think it is a good thing and why it is such a popular system to implement. Someone hit me with the hard truth about this.
Progression is why. You’re a better player than when you first started (or should be at least). The point of the resets is to let you see that progress. So for example: you start of silver rank with a 0.90 k/d and a 40% win ratio, a month later the ranks reset and you again get silver rank but your k/d rises to a 1.0 and you get a 50% win ratio, month later it resets again and you hit gold rank with a 1.1 k/d and 55% win ratio, it then keeps going and going. If they were to not reset the ranks and such every month, then your first few months of play would dip into your rank and stats. The idea is supposedly to let us see how far we’ve come since we first started playing, which I can understand and do agree with. It’s going to be a preference thing on rank resets, I can’t say which is more preferable but I still see the point in resets.
There’s a few reason:
- Doesn’t take a huge time commitment to get competitive matches, just 10 games (campare to h2/3/MCC where it could take dozens or hundreds - Visible progression throughout each month - Cuts down on smurfs (high level players making 2nd accounts and running up the ranks again leaving a bloody wake of low level players) - It doesnt really “reset” as it is just really squishy for the first games each month. Losses and wins affect your csr much more during placement but your csr rolls over from the last month
