So I’ve been trying to use the light rifle more often as a long-range alternative to the DMR. Unfortunately, I don’t quite get it.
Does the LR have a hit delay? It seems like instead of my shots landing, they always are a little behind. I hit all the shots with the DMR immediately, but the LR takes time to actually hit, especially at range. Maybe this is the auto-aim effect, but it seems to be the case even when the person is within range.
LR shots are projectile; a minor flaw in it’s gameplay balance.
Lead your shots.
The LR is not hitscan. It will take time for you shot to reach its destination. It is one of the things that keeps the LR from being TOO good. Just practice, you will get the hang of it. Not too hard to figure out with all the magnetism in this game
As mentioned above, it’s not hitscan and takes effort to use but effort that’s rewarded nonetheless.It does have magnetism but due to being projectile it feel’s like it has little to none when compared to the BR or DMR for sure.It seem’s this is more of a balancing feature for it, as one said above me if it had hitscan it would be too good.
Once you use the gun for a while and understand how it works, you’ll be able to counter the DMR all day long. You’ll wonder why everyone is complaining about the DMR being “overpowered.” My torso armor piece testifies as to how much I enjoy and use the weapon.
Zoomed in, you have a potential 4 shot kill. Zoomed out, it’s 5 shot kill that behaves sorta like the Battle Rifle with its 3-round burst.

Currently the LR is under review.
So far in the changes coming to the LR, its red reticle range (RRR) is likely to remain at 91.5m with the DMR having its RRR reduced to match.
The unscoped RoF and DpH (rate of fire, damage per hit) so far is not changing.
The scoped RoF is apparently changing because the BR and Carbine are that much more effective. The LR needs some 25m and on love (so they say).
No matter what at the moment:
The LR is a 3-bullet burst shot without recoil but with blooming spread when shot without zooming in (noscope/unscoped).
RRR is 30.6m.
It takes 14 bullets (5 shots) at 1.77s to kill a Spartan if all shots are unscoped and the last is to the head.
It takes 22 bullets (8 shots) at about 3s to kill a Spartan if all shots are unscoped and to the body.
It can kill 2 enemies and down a 3rd’s shields to half before reloading.
The LR is a single shot without recoil, bloom or spread (maybe minimal, like equal to or less than the ZBDMR from Reach).
RRR is 91.5m.
It takes 4 bullets (4 shots) at 1.4s to kill a Spartan if all shots are scoped and the last is to the head.
It takes 5 bullets (5 shots) at 1.87s to kill a Spartan if all shots are scoped and to the body.
Currently a player can “combo” 4 shots so that if any of the first 3 shots are scoped, the remaining shots can be unscoped, and as long as all bullets hit and the last shot is to the head, the kill can be had in about 1.37s.
It can down 3 enemies before reloading.

You guys want to know what I think? I think the weapon designers at 343 are -Yoinking!- morons. The lightrifle and suppressor shoot LIGHT, which should travel at the -Yoinking!- speed of light, 300,000 m/s. the DMR fires physical projectiles with a speed no greater than 1000 m/s. and yet somehow the hyper advanced alien light weapons have a slower hit time than the archaic human ballistic projectile weapons. That right there tells you why this game is so bad. 343 is -Yoinking!- stupid!
